To preface: I have a learning disability. The notes I took were almost impossible to understand for me and I didn't always have the option for consultation. I had to spend a ton of time researching online for the same material that was explained in different ways. The textbook was also impossible for me to understand. Very hard class.

Knowledgeable and passionate; clearly enjoys the subject. Expects students to work hard, complete readings, and actively participate. If you fall behind on readings or skip class you will have problems. Tests/papers are fair and only cover material discussed in class. One of my favorite professors/classes.

Barnbaum knows her material. The lectures are long, but well worth it. The exams really test your knowledge but are not over anything you didn't learn. Overall wonderful professor and I am really glad I had to take this course.

When I first read these ratings, I will admit..I was terrified. Don't let them fool you! I have never taken an ethics course before, and Dr.B made this class extremely interesting. As long as you actually read the material and pay attention in class, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A or B. She is also very funny!

I found the class was interesting and thought-provoking. However, I found the professor was short with students and downright rude on more than one occasion. I do not feel she treats students with respect.

Really irritated with this class! I read all the crap and barely understand Beauchamp and Childress! All quizzes are given before she explains the content!! Which makes no sense! Although her lectures are great and she is smart and funny, the stuff does not sink in!

This was the hardest class i have taken at Kent. I have around a 3.4 and found myself struggling to understand the information. 2 books and you read around 40-50 pages per week. The reading is boring and long and you MUST read everything. Quizzes are tough because she draws random questions from the hundreds of case studies you have to read.

This course is required for all IHS majors. I had never had a philosophy class before and it was tough to grasp the general ideas at first. She is very helpful though--you take a quiz every week over her readings which tends to be very detail-oriented. I always summarized my readings and e-mailed them to her before the quiz and she would help me ou

A good suppliment to intro to ethics as it applies theories to practice situations. A good course for philosophy majors and med students. Easy essay exams tested text comprehension that was supplemented by lecture. A good, interesting class to attend.

Covered many topics in a short period of time but with great clarity. Her enthusiasm makes lecture easy to follow and memorable. Tests are taken right from lecture, but are more conceptual than literal. A great professor as well as mentor.

She really knows Phil. Otherwise she sadly relies on confrontation and arguement to demonstrate her intellect. Wants you to parrot words from the textbook for quiz. She tries to be fair but there is something not quite right about her system. Some only came Tues. for her quiz & got an easy A. I came every day & took part in discussion & got a B.

Dr. Barnbaum is so awesome! For a philosophy class, this was an easy A. Lectures VERY easy to understand. She makes class fun and interesting and she has a great personality. Reading can be a little tough, tests fairly easy-usually multiple choice, sometimes short answer. Final is essay! No papers
