Comment:

Doable amount of homework assigned everybody class, collected 1x a week. Some of the questions are hard and werent covered in class but the test reflects the easier part of hw. 2 tests and 1 final. Dont skip class and dont zone out or youll be left behind. Doesnt use canvas/moodle so youll only know your grade after. He does go over tests

Love this prof! Solid choice if you want you want to learn. Always go to office hours if you are confused because he explains step by step processes and doesn't make you memorize random things. He's really funny too and doesn't make class boring. 2 midterms and lots of homework. and a final. Easy A if you work hard

Took him for Calc III. The lectures are very cursory so make sure to ask questions or you'll be stuck on the homework forever. Practicing all the homework problems will more than prepare you for the tests - one midterm one final - which are all that is graded.

Professor Chang is a great professor. He is very well-prepared and well-organized. He teaches and explains the materials very well to make hard topics become easy to understand. He does an excellent job on review main points before the tests and final exam. That helps students a lot. Thank you! I am looking forward to take more classes with him.

Dr Chang teaches Probability Theory in a way that is plug chug. Does not go over the meaning of the topics in this course. Only shows how to compute Problems. The book chosen is a great book (Degroot), however, it can be hard to read at times. Due to Chang's teaching style, the proper book was not chosen. I will not be taking any courses with Chang

Amazing! His personality is hilarious, and he wants the best for all his students. His exams are examples straight from the book, as long as you do the homework and examples it's an easy A/B. His lectures are basically the easiest examples from the book, but his exams are a fair reflection of the lectures.

He's by far one of the best math professors, if you can take his class don't resist. He makes the subject clear and the class not difficult to pass. Just study and you will pass plus he makes the class pass by pretty fast.

Dr. Chang is a great professor, with good teaching skills and a passion for the material. He made probability theory very graspable for me. The only problem is that he often shoots down students' questions if they require "too much ink" to go over in class. Keep your questions short, or he will blow you off.

Comment:

Brilliant and fun professor! Took differential equations (MATH 215 I think) and notation & proof (MATH 325) way back in 2009; as a Ph.D student today, I still remember what he taught, and how amazingly well he taught :). Don't ever miss taking class with him, you'll learn well!

Derek Chang of CSULA Math is the best teacher!! Made calculus easy. I did not take another calculus course with him, and I regretted it. Best teacher ever. Choose him over others, but there are a few other good ones to. Writes clearly, speaks clearly, what more can you ask? Greatest professor.

Derek Chang is the best professor for any level of calculus. Seek him out for your calculus courses. Tons of homework, and he checks the homework, so don't slack here. Test are long, very long, but fair. Explains everything crystal clear. I wish he was department chair at csula. Derek Chang deserves a best teacher award or something like that.

This professor is AWESOME! He is one of the best Math Professors at CSULA! His test are very fair!! (2 Midterms & Final). He always reviews a couple of days before the exams so their won't be no surprises. Homework is collected every week but its not bad since during lecture he goes over a few of the problems. & he always adds humor to math

Second time taking a class with Dr. Chang and I must say it was just as pleasant as the last. As always, he was well prepared and taught the class with great clarity. His corny jokes kept us attentive and he was also very helpful during his office hours. He definitely knows his stuff.

Awesome professor. Clear lectures. Very helpful in class and during office hours. The course is quite difficult though and will require you do the homework and prepare appropriately. Highly recommended regardless!

Clearcut lectures that do not feel long and drawn out. covers material solidly and with humor. Final was twice as hard as the midterm, so you really need to do the HW and know your stuff. There's quite a bit of memorization of material.
