Comment:
I've had Professor Scillia for the Honors section of Art History I and Art History II. She knows a crazy amount of depth about the subjects but she lectures the entire class period and it gets really dry. Grading consists of 3 take home essays, which each have to be 10-12 pages. Not engaging, but if you're a good writer, you can easily get an A.

Professor Scillia is very knowledgable able the topics that she covers but she unfortunately gets off on tangents and doesn't cover all of the material that should be covered in class. Her tests are also extremely hard to pass. The only saving grace for this class is that she gives a lot of extra credit.

I took the honors section of this course, and it was frustrating. All of the exams are papers which is fine but she grades harder on grammar than your understanding and arguments about the material. She took points off because she did not like the wording I used, but didn't say anything about my claims. I don't recommend her.

Had her for honors Art Hist 2, and her enthusiasm made me love the artwork she showed us. Attendance is not mandatory and sometimes it's hard to stay focused during lectures but she's an easy grader as long as you provide a fresh opinion and try to seem like you know what you're talking about. Textbook is also not mandatory.

Where to begin? Knowledgeable, cares about her students, and well-rounded. Ask her about anything. And she'll know it. Always willing to help. Her goal is always to make you learn and you will have a lot of respect for her.

Best. Professor. Ever. She doesn't favor anyone as long as you show interest in Art History. If you give her a rating of anything less than mine, you are the problem not her. Always room for extra credit! I love Dr. Scillia!

Gothic Art (the upper division art history credit course) is by far the worst class I've ever taken at Kent State. Her lectures are unorganized, she doesn't upload lectures or study guides until a few days before a test, study guides are worthless anyway, she disagrees with the book, and she only likes art history majors and grad students.

Find a new class or professor right away. The lectures are completely pointless to go to. Not a single student, including grads, is engaged and she does not seem to care at all. She just rambles on and on about nothing important at all. It is very frustrating. I am in the Iconoclasm class, and she has yet to mention anything about what it is.

As a printmaking major I really wanted to like this class. Unfortunately it is horrible. Diane rambles, has a really high expectation of prior art history knowledge and is frustratingly unclear about her expectations. I asked point blank if there would be slide IDs on the exam and was told no. Come exam day, 6 slide IDs. Rawr!

Had her for Art History II...awful experience. Lectures were so boring I stopped attending. The only reason I did well was because all exams and quizzes were online and I used the book for answers. Also got together with friends from the class and did the exams together. GET THE BOOK.

Had her for Art History 1 and really enjoyed her class. Took Northern Renaissance Art and hated it. Lectures were drawn out and very hard to stay awake during. She was not clear on the expectations for essays on tests or the research paper.

DO NOT TAKE HER! Lectures are pointless to go to, all she does is show a slideshow of artwork and she names them out loud. Does not say what will be on the exams, the small group discussions are just as useless. Study guides are 8 pages long and of absolutely no help. Actually like the subject and got an A in ARTI, yet managed a D in this class.

Diane Scillia is a perfect example of an enthusiastic teacher who loves what she does. There are 3 tests in the course, and you have your choice of taking an in-class multiple choice exam or a take-home essay. Attendance is not mandatory but it is helpful to be able to succeed on tests. Easy A or B!

I actually like art history, quite a bit. Her lectures were tedious, peppered with small, annoying errors such as mismatched dates or misspelled artist names. I learned from the take-home essays, not much from the lectures; I did come to appreciate her overall attitude toward education. But still will avoid taking her again. easy A.

If you're not into art, this class will be a complete bore. She basically just lists the art works, and then tells boring stories that have nothing to do with anything. You're better off just reading the book.

HORRIBLE teacher!!! I am a good student and I found her very hard to follow. She also never agrees with the book, which can be very hard to deal with. I would suggest finding a different teacher, right away!!
