This is an easier class. Interpreters from different settings come in and talk about their work. You take notes and ask questions. Will have quizzes on the content & vocab related to the speakers' presentations. You will have to find an article on 2 settings, write an outline, and then sign it for 5 minutes in class. Half of class is signed only.

Difficult class! You have to want to be an interpreter to put the time and effort into this class. You'll learn a lot. Have to translate English sentences into ASL glosses, memorize 2 minutes of ASL to perform in class (twice),come up with your own 2 minute signed stories (twice), watch the DVD and complete literary questions, midterm & final.

Read ahead. Study group. Ask questions. Projects. She's deeply respected by the Deaf community erpreters. She has a lot of different experiences that make her incredibly knowledgeable. She's willing to talk over the phone, respond to emails, texts,&meet in her office. Work hard! You'll have her again if you continue w/ the interpreting program.

I love Dianne. She is very hard working and obviously has a lot of passion and knowledge about what she teaches. She may not always be the easiest teacher, but if this is your major, you need somebody who is going to push you to be better. I also find it ironic that somebody who gave her a negative rating didn't bother to use proper English.

If you think ASL IS EASY, YOUR WRONG. Professor Falvo is an amazing teacher, smart, funny, and serious about ASL. This class is not easy but if you do the work and participate than you will pass. be ready to do work and if your serious about ASL than you'll do great.

I like her as a person, but not as a professor for Linguistics. That class is the hardest class I've ever taken. She gives you a study guide but there's barely anything from it on the actual tests. If you are going to take this class, take it alone. She basically expects all your free-time to go to studying.

I honestly don't understand the negative comments.I have her for fingerspelling. She encourage people to ask questions and wants you to actually learn & understand. Granted in FS, she doesn't speak so maybe my experience is different from others who have her in a different class. She is not difficult to talk to or understand.

She is without a doubt the worst professor on the face of the earth. She could care less if students understand her teaching and when students don't understand she thinks of them as being stupid. I've had her many times say to me when I ask her to repeat something that 'if I don't understand something, I should change my major." Real nice Dianne.

I have never encountered a teacher who works as hard and deticates themselves as much as Dianne. I've learned soo much from her and, while I may disagree with her grading system at times, she inspires greatness from her students. Problem? Sometimes she demands the same level of greatness from her students as she would from herself. LOVE HER!!

Comment:
Had Dianne for Bilingual Immersion (interpreting class) and for interpeting workshops. Although she is very knowledgeable and intelligent, she is way too opinionated and loves to put down students if they make a mistake. You can work like a dog for her class and get virtually no praise. She is way too impressed with herself.
