very pleasant and friendly. writes up funny math quotes on the board daily to keep the mood light and stress free. very helpful. tests are exactly what he says they'll be. offers bonus homework. if you show you care and are working hard and are on the fence between grades, he'll bump you up!! interested in all maths. loves to talk about it :)

Calc 2 prof- wonderful. He is very helpful and cares about how the class is going for you. the only reason the text book use is low is because he took the time to make his own supplementary notes to it so we don't have to buy the book. does not only engage class but likes to laugh and joke around. NEVER makes you feel bad about mistakes in work.

Highly recommended professor! He has a thick southern accent and laughs at himself in class for making algebra mistakes. No surprises on his tests; they are exactly like the homework and problems that you do in class. Math isn't always easy to get the hang of but he makes it an enjoyable experience. Take him if you ever have the chance!

Good teacher. He has such a cute kentucky accent, and laughs at himself a lot during class if he makes a mistake. Tests are exactly what he teaches which helps.

Calculus 2 is obviously going to be a difficult class unless youre part of the small percentage that understands math very easily. Prof. Dykes goes out of his way to make math enjoyable and as easy to learn as he possibly can. Best prof. for math on campus, hands down.

I'm on the fence about Dykes. On the one hand, he's hilarious and entertaining and does make math enjoyable. Having him an hour 5x a week wasn't so bad. On the other hand, he's a tough grader and you'll need to put A LOT of work into the class if you want to do well. Great guy.

He teaches calc 1 and 2, he uses his own notes, 12 bucks for the notes compared to the 99 dollar book. He's chill down to earth, loves Kentucky basketball and the Kentucky Derby. He calls himself dumb when he makes mistakes, its funny... Highly Recommend this man!

I would highly recommend Dr. Dykes to anyone; he is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He's really understanding and if you have any issues with anything he's more than willing to work them out with you. I'm biased because I love math, but the material and the class were pretty easy. If you have the chance, definitely take this class.

Comment:

Dr. Dykes has been teaching for many years, and has much talent to share with his students. He uses a Note Packet for the course material that follows his lectures exactly to the digit which is perfect to study for tests. Calculus is not easy, but if you study well and early then you will do fine. I got a 102% on the first exam : )

Dr. Dykes is one of the best professors I've ever had. And I absolutely hate Calculus, if that helps you decide whether or not to take him. He's funny, keeps the class entertaining and his tests are straight from his own printed notes. Also, a bonus is that the Calc2 final is NOT cumulative! This is reason alone to take him!

Dr. Dykes was great! He showed many different ways to do problems and was always open to suggestions. He makes arithmetic mistakes but laughs about them when students correct him. He pretty much tells you exactly what is going to be on the test; they are very similar to the homework problems as well. Only downfall: early morning calculus class.

Hands down, the worst teacher I have ever had. His teaching is sub par but not terrible, but his grading is ridiculous. Every test I came out of thinking I had an A or B and received Ds. He doesn't believe in partial credit. His grading is consistently harsh. Seems like a nice guy but I would avoid his class if at all possible.

I dont know what the previous person was thinking but Donald Dykes has been one of my favorite professors. He is very helpful if you do not understand the material. He is also very smart and knows what he talks about. I got over 100% in trig and did real well in Calc 1 also. I would recommend him to everybody!

One of the worst teachers i have ever had. He assumes you already know the material. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. Seems like he favors some students over others. He's mildly entertaining but thats not what we're here for. If you have no other option but him i suggest taking the class at a regional campus

Amazing professor, pay attention, take notes, study, and do the homework. He really does tell you what's going to be on the test. He also makes the class laugh at times also. He really does want his students to learn. If you can take his class, yeah 7:45 everyday in the morning sucked but it's worth it.
