Idk why so many people are rating her bad, I currently have her for class and she's great. There's ways to get help if you struggle and her lectures have random questions to answer so it keeps you focused and only for participation. I'm glad I chose her over other professors. Outside class work isn't that much either.

The worst experience with any professor at UH. She is a poor lecturer and does not at all help to make the material understandable. The day of our first exam, she had us give her problems we couldn't solve from the book and she would help answer. She couldn't solve one and literally said, "I'm glad I'm not taking this test!" Everyone was shocked.

Stokes is for all of you that do want to take Physics at UH, she is just the single best prof. here. General Physics has gotten easier over the years so there is no need for a curve. Study and read and work some problems from the book and you will be fine. Pay attention to deadlines: some online hw is due at 11am not 11pm as usual.

No curves on exams. Her lectures are long and boring. She spends half the class deriving one equation that should not take that long. She is ill prepared for the class. we have had to subs and they each had heavy foreign accents and taught better than her. I learned better in High School. Read the book. Better yet take university level.

She does not explain things very well. she is too intent on staying with the syllabus and won't answer questions if she is behind in lectures. Very low test averages in class. she will not work out problems; she expects you to be able to fill in the blank because you "read the chapter"... because the book explains it so well... (not).

Take Physics at HCC like the person below says. If you do take Stokes, pay attention. Lock your phone away and sit with someone that will keep you focused. I lost focused and probably will fail this course. She's unorganized with due dates. Watch for weekly hw and quizzes. 3 tests and 1 comprehensive final. Final can replace worst test grade.

First of all, if you can take physics at community college, don't take it at UH. Dr. Stokes is nice, helpful, and the tests are not that hard either. Her lectures are alright and if you do your hw and do a lot of examples, you 'll be fine on the test. I kinda self-studied and it was manageable. If you are not physics person, don't take phys at UH.

Don't waste your time unless you are going to teach yourself physics. Stokes will not work out problems if you don't understand, and she is rude if you ask questions. The only way she can answer problems is if she's reading the solutions from the back of the book! No need to attend class unless you want the extra points.

Not a bad professor, not a great one. She is friendly and enthusiastic, but puts HW online that is sometimes open for only 48 hours. Not everyone has time to check Blackboard every two days. Gives Bonus for attendance and review.

no point in taking notes or paying attention. This is a completely self-teach course with Stokes. If you can manage to do that, you are good to go. Also, Attendance bonus REALLY helps in the end, even though you may think it does not.

Doesn't care about you. Most people cheat to do well because she is so bad. I made an A in cal 1, cal 2, but thought this class was horrible. She is the worst UH prof to take physics 1 with. She doesn't explain her work. She embarasses question those that ask questions. She blames students confusion on our failed calculus abilities when its her.

perhaps she should take some classes herself in education and communications.Very disappointing. No reviews, class average is 42%.Doesn't help and explanations do not make sense.she needs the solution manual in order to work a problem.I do not think she belongs in a university perhaps a high school. Please do not waste your hard earned money on her

save yourself the pain and take professor Ordones. She does not like to teach! Does not give reviews because she says: " its not going to help you anyways and she is very vindictive! I love physics and I am very good in it but it was a pain to sit in her class. She is not a individual that I would recommend for quality education. Very bitter woman.

she is horrible. She brings solution manual to the class and still cannot answer some of the questions, even some of the homework questions that she assigns. she does not know what she is doing sometimes. I wont recommend her at all.

i thought this class would be easy but it wasnt... if your gonna take her, or any other physics prof at UH, i recommend you learn as much as you can before your semester starts. all the physics professors suck REALLY BAD here. seriously. and she's never available outside of class except like 2 minutes right after each lecture...

Very good professor. Test questions come straight from examples in book. If you can do the examples in the book you will pass. This is a hard course, so it's a lot of work. Gives extra credit for correctly answering clicker questions and formula sheets on the test.

Class pace is fast, one chapter a week, hw and tests are straight from book. Do all hw to maximize bonus points from class participation questions. If your 3 exam grades are above the class average, then you should do fine in this class and end up with a decent final grade. Dr Stokes is very nice (and funny at times).

Dr. Stokes is very thorough and clear. She tries very hard to make this subject clear and easy to understand. You need to do homework online, and then do some extra homework on your own to make sure you understand the subject well enough to show on the exam. Come to class, take good notes and do your homework and you will do great.
