needa to work on teaching methods. Often ends up rambling on over useless topics. Have heard from good sources that he has very little real world surveying experience, but is very book smart. Hard for him to level out with people who don't know much about surveying to explain just about anything. Throws curve balls on many exams. Ambiguous.

I stopped by his office at least once every two weeks, he wasn't bothered at all and he was so welcoming. Doug is a nice guy once you know him in person but he needs to work on teaching. Read the book before coming to class and make sure to understand the labs.

First of all, the first surveying course is a weed-out course. It's meant to be hard so study a lot and keep up with the material. Doug is a nice guy once you get to know him. Boundary surveying class was fun and he kept it interesting.

Doug's tests are okay-if you study every single detail that is ever mentioned! He is a nice guy when you get to know him, but he prides himself on the fact that he can put small details on tests just because he can. Labs are a lot of work, but only worth 16% of the grade! You really have to know this stuff to do well. Cumulative tests, study hard!

Straight forward and helpful if you attend office hours. May be intimidating until you get to know hime

Not very clear with teaching and instructions for labs and homework. Thinks every thing he teaches is very obvious when it's not. If you don't know AutoCAD you're behind, because the TA's kind of help but don't know the program that well. The TA's A very unorganized class that should be pretty straight forward with the material but it's not.

Tests are hard. He doesn't answer questions and treats you like a dummy when you don't understand something that's in his textbook. Threw us into a surveying drafting program with no instructions besides saying we got a zero if we worked together. The TA's tried to help but they get kind of swamped when 80 people have no idea how to use a program.

Never came to labs and lab TAs were not very helpful. Land Desktop assignments were very hard without prior CAD experience. He made it very hard to take notes in his class. Test questions were very different from examples he did in class.

Smith is a very interesting professor, as he mainly references a book that he compiled (sold at cards n copies). His lectures are to the point and structured, no time for questions, except after class. Tests are hard, but study the old ones and you will do fine. He was rarely at the surveying labs, so be sure to choose a wise partner.

Easily the worst prof I have ever had. Laughed if you had any questions, and basically was the biggest jerk I have ever met. The tests were ridiculous and he showed no mercy. Thought he was better that everyone else, and treated us like little kids.
