Comment:
This class was much more difficult than it needed to be. It is the lowest math level that is required for a business degree, so many people take it for their requirements. Dwight was a tough teacher, the homework (due once every few weeks) took a number of hours to complete, and the tests had low overage scores (usually around a C).

He spends a lot of the time in class explaining how theories and formulas came to be rather than spending time solving math equations because he wants everyone to gain an appreciation for math. However, it doesn't really help and unnecessary for students who just need to fulfill a math requirement. He helps during office hours though

He is NOT a good teacher by any means. I took Calc 1 in high school and I am still lost on the REVIEW! He does a terrible job teaching the examples he does he just starts writing and expects everyone to follow along. I am not alone either almost everyone else is confused during lectures too, judging by their silent comments and body language.

Do NOT take Dwight Bean if possible. I took AP Calculus in high school, but otherwise I would not have known anything by the end of the semester. He's not a good teacher, most of our test averages were around 40%. He's also condescending when you ask relevant questions.

My advice if you take Professor Bean's class is to take notes from the textbook, do problems from the textbook and webwork, as well as study your butt off for the tests. If you did not take calculus I in high school I would not suggest taking his class. You'll be lost and have to put a lot of effort in to succeed.

Dr. Bean's teaching style either is terrible or simply does not jive with me. Would not recommend. His lectures are not very clear, and he doesn't answer questions in class very well or very completely. I had to teach myself a lot of the material. The homework is on an online program, which I did not like. Overall, the class didn't work for me.

Dr. Bean is a really good, helpful professor. However, if you don't do the reading, don't talk in class, or don't do the homework, it is virtually impossible to get a good grade in this class. He tries to help students who don't study the material but most of the time they dig their own graves. Always has office hours and cares about his students

Math Logic with Bean was the worst class I have ever taken. He expects students to learn all the materials before class and then be able to teach it to the rest of the class when called on. This class wrecked my life and GPA. LITERAL HELL

Math Logic is easily the hardest class I've ever taken. Professor Bean doesn't make it any easier. He's very nonspecific in what he's looking for and is very demeaning when you don't give him exactly what he wanted. He expects you to teach yourself the material then present it to the class for participation points. Office hours? Forget it. No help

Professor Bean is a passionate guy who cares about his students. He wants everyone to succeed, but I feel like he lacks the ability to motivate students. Especially in this course, which is entirely about writing proofs. Grade was 25% participation, 40% tests, and the rest was homework and quizzes. Tests werent bad if you did the book problems.

Bean is a really nice person, but very difficult to learn math from. If you have a solid background in calculus, take him, but if you're looking for a teacher who spends more time teaching the material, look somewhere else. Rough homework, rough course. It's easy to get behind.

His class style is very conceptual base, which is good because it makes his test very easy to study. The web program used for homework is a little rough and his final exam was a total curve ball.

Such a sweet guy but nobody can take this class seriously at all. Pay attention in class and you'll do well on the quizzes; Understand your homework and you'll do well on the test. Grade is curved so don't worry too much. He basically gives all the answers to everything.

Professor Bean teaches in a weird way in that he does not teach. He has the students take turns explaining concepts that are completely foreign to them and never actually explains things. Participation is the majority of your grade. The class was incredibly difficult and time consuming, I would not recommend it.

I have him for Math Logic and the class is very hard, mainly because of the concepts and the textbook. He teaches it in an interesting way, where most of the grade is participation and knowledge of material, but I think he could do a better job making sure everyone knows what they are doing. Overall I think the problem is the class itself, not him.

Great teacher. Very clear and super willing to help out. Do homework, pay attention in class and you'll be just fine. Use the practice test at the end of each chapter, it's exactly like the test, but with different numbers. Glad I took this class.
