Took him for Strbcks, Fcbk, Hswvs: Pol/Life. I had no idea what to expect going in but I enjoyed the class. It is thought provoking and different than anything you'll hear on campus

Comment:

Possibly the greatest professor I've ever had. No one has a a greater impact on how I analyze material and my writing. He covers complex and abstract concepts and require a lot of reading, but he is incredibly helpful and patient. You will be smarter and more aware person after his class (Course: American Gothic). Highly Recommended.

Ingebretsen is by turns brilliant, frustrating, challenging and unresponsive. He may not always live up to the courage of his convictions, but he forces you to think. Responds in kind: lots of attention to interested ppl, none to slackers. Can be superficial in class, but willing to expound otherwise.

If there's one thing this man is good at, it's writing a good syllabus. Class on pop culture was awful, readings were mostly boring and we only went over the first few paragraphs of 10+ page passages. Graded absolutely nothing; I have no clue how I got my final grade and was too scared/fed up to ask. Man is nice enough, but for your sake, STAY AWAY

Lousy professor. Class sounded cool on paper, but sucks. All work goes ungraded until the end so you have no idea what your grade is. Professor never responds to E-mails, even if you ask him a question. The basis of the class is over analysis. Professor appears to favor suck-ups as well.

Stay Away. The man is crazy. He doesn't say a thing that makes sense, and his lectures are impossible to follow. I thought the class description was awesome, too bad the Professor ruined it. Many long readings and writings (6 three page papers, 15 reading summaries, midterm, and final). Plus, he's a cocky jerk. Dont take him.

(intro crit. meth. pop culture) I can't stand this man. He's so full of himself and full of IT. Most of the readings, discussing legitimate cultural theory, are intelligible and interesting, but the prof. is neither, detracts from course. Class is worthless but mandatory. Suck up for grade. Keep up with the reports and blog as you go, it adds up.

Dreadful professor. He does, as others have noted, make quite an effort to shock students, at the expense of actually teaching anything. Rarely responds to emails and is barely available outside of class. More writing than I've ever had in a class - and none of it is graded until the class is over. Also is kind of a jerk.

Miserable, miserable class. Loved to try to shock students, but never really said much of any importance. He was extremely disorganized and consistently confused dates and times. I could never figure out what he wanted and he discouraged original thought. Bleh.

Nuttier than a fruitcake. The man makes all sorts of wild pronouncements, many of which seem intended to shock those far younger than himself. However, Ingebretsen never seems able to back up his goofy claims about American culture. I was bored. Kept wishing that I'd taken a class with someone still on planet earth.

An excellent professor, though admittedly at times a tad too bold for conservative Catholic students at Gtown. A fabulously interesting lecturer who changed the way I see literature. True- doesn't give grades but instead will tell you exactly what needs improvement in your writing/class performance.
