Comment:

Elizabeth Murphy's class was a class I took by itself because for the horrible reviews both online and in person that I came across. I give her an F as a teacher, she does not want you to understand this stuff at all, just mindlessly drone it out during the exam. She was too over the top with homework with an average of 15 hours spent outside class

Dr. Murphy was difficult to interact with. She claimed to be knowledgeable about a topic then would respond to inquiries with I dont know. She would also interrupt questions to the extent the full question wouldnt be asked.

The most intense professor I have ever had. She is not very nice and seems to be angry or annoyed with everything. Do the work and dont expect to get any help from her. I dont understand why DePaul hires professors like this. If you want pain and lots of stress for a quarter then take her.

Great professor. I was already familiar with her style having taken her CPA workshop. Very knowledgeable and cares about the students. I found the class to be difficult- content wise- but prof was more than willing to help during office hours. Pay attention during review sesh for midterm and final!

Alright - if you are an undergrad (or grad) student looking for an easy A, you're in the wrong class. If you're an undergrad or grad student who is INTERESTED IN LEARNING THE MATERIAL (FOR THE CPA OR NOT) - you will be fine. It's hard, but definitely do-able.

Comment:

She gives you a powerpoint lecture and then assigns homework. The lecture covers nothing on the hw. She just expects you to understand it. Only after hw is due does she go over the actual concept. Her midterm and final review are good though, she goes over what will be on the exams. Tough class, don't bother attending PP lecture, waste of time.

Horrible ! Horrible ! Horrible teacher ! Shame on DePaul for allowing her to teach. Of course they know she does not really teach. Is it the tenure? Come on, we the students pay a lot for her to be there and she does not teach at all. Literally for 3 hours she stands at the computer station with the excel open on the projector screen. Insulting !

Avoid her at all costs. You have to literally teach yourself everything. I spent 20 hours every weekend just for one chapter. Tests equal 80% of your grade. Homework is pretty difficult and optional projects are even harder, but if you can under stand them then you have the midterm. Get the book and prepared to teach yourself everything.

You have to go into this class expecting that it will take over your life. The homework will take your entire weekend. Her lectures are unclear, she talks very monotone, and I taught myself ENTIRELY from the book. Almost everyone fails the midterm. She is one of the worst professors I have EVER had at DePaul. Make sure to study EVERY day to pass!!!

Honestly, I think Dr. Murphy is great. Yes, this is a very difficult class but if you actually read the chapters like your suppose to - you will do fine. She recommends reading the highlighted version but I think you need to read everything. Do the study material. Tests are hard but you are preparing for cpa. Painful lectures if nobody participates

"It's a beautiful thing!" Either Prof. Murph really stepped her game up or there are a bunch of whiners on here. The class itself is without a doubt challenging, but Prof. Murph sets you up to win. The homework load is a bit large, but it makes the exams cake. Prof. Murph provides you will a million avenues to succeed.

Dr. Murphy is a nice person, her teaching method is unsatisfactory. I took her over the summer which we only had 5wks learn the material. This class is challenging but she offers minimal help, a ridiculous amount of homework due before class and just reads off the power point. I would strongly suggest NOT to take her.

She is a horrible teacher. She is very rude to all her students. She almost made a girl cry during class for asking a question. You pretty much teach yourself the entire class. I would highly recommend getting a tutor if you must take her accounting class. You need the book for her class and cengagenow.

She's a nice woman and all, but she does not know how to teach. Basically, it's learn on your own and spend 8 hours per homework assignments (they're online- and they're HORRIBLE!) Don't take her, unless you're okay with your GPA plummeting!
