Ella taught us about an evaluation criteria which literally changed my life and was better advice and help than nearly all my other art classes combined.

In most art schools, as long as you do the work and show up for class, you'll pass. A professor might challenge you here or there about some basic choice in your work but really that's it. Ella challenged me to do more, to think critically about what I put out there and to not settle for run of the mill. This hurts a lot of kids' egos but it's real

Professor Gant is not helpful at all. She doesn't understand the software used to do projects, and does not allow enough time to complete work. Her grading is harsh (she grades primarily based on whether she likes you or your work, not based on whether it's well done), and is not easy to talk to. Additionally, she has a narrow view of what art is.

Bret Olsen is the true gem of the whole course- the course is worth it only because you will learn a great deal from him, he is very helpful. Ella Gant takes her position at Hamilton for granted - is judgmental and useless during office hours (if you ever catch her there). Good luck if you're not into avante garde filmmaking at least in 101-

Ella Gant is one of the worst professors I have had at Hamilton. She assigns you work, but doesn't tell you the specifics, not does she help you to come to a conclusion. Office hours are useless. No effort in teaching at all. Judges you early on. Cannot come to agreement with her. Need full prior knowledge of course or else you are doomed to fail.

She does not have the time for her intro students. She goes away a lot and/or is sick. I missed one class because I was ill and wrote her at 8am (before class) to let her know. She wrote back telling me it was "my choice to skip classes".I sent her 2 emails about my work in the last week and she hasn't responded.Tuition is wasted with prof. Gant.

once past her hard-ass stage in intro, ella is an excellent, passionate, helpful art teacher. you learn a lot of good tech stuff in intro, but if you survive that, she'll help you really push the envelope in the advanced classes. recommended!
