Comment:
Do not take Prof Hart. I took her for Calc I, and did pretty well because I had taken AB Calc before and got a 4 on the AP, but she is just not a good teacher. A sweet lady, but I felt so bad for all the students in the class who had never taken calc before. Even the ones who had were struggling. I learnt basically nothing when I went to class.

Comment:
Hart is a nice woman, but her classes are disorganized, her teaching is unclear, and the amount of mistakes she makes per class is worrisome. The material that appears on the tests and weekly quizzes is more challenging than what we cover in class and despite making countless errors during her lectures, she punishes simple mistakes on tests.

I should have taken Calc I with someone else. Spent most time of all my courses on the homework and studying only to run into the buzzsaw of her tests. I agree with the below comments that she does not teach to her tests. Even some people who had taken AB Calc in high school had difficulty. Accessible office hours though, and nice person.

Professor H seems to have difficulty presenting material. Quite a few of my classmates are close to failing and I am not far behind. We are mathematics majors who have all had great academic success in other related courses. We agree that she can be very vague and her tests don't follow her classroom instruction. Too bad. She is a nice woman.

Humph, I feel like that Hart just doesn't know how to explain her idea. She's smart and willing to help, but her class is, well, not well organized. I guess she will be a better professor teaching 320

she seems really confusing but it was not her fault. the course itself is extremely confusing. but you are really determined and willing to commit yourself into this class you will receive a decent grade

I'm not sure if she is teaching Calc 1 this semester, but I would not recommend her. She's very difficult to follow and does not teach to her tests, so to speak. You will study a ton but then the test will have a bunch of problems way above and beyond the homework. That is where students who took Calc before get a real advantage.

She's really hard, the only thing that saved me was that I had taken Calculus before. There are other options for Calc I at Colgate.

Easy? no. Will you learn a lot? yes. Helpful? She makes an effort to be, for sure. Depends on the student. I didn't think she was very bad, but I can also see how she may not suit certain learning styles.

Not the greatest prof for number theory. She seemed to know her stuff really well, but had a low teach/communication/learn ratio if that makes any sense. She tries hard but isn't as effective. Recommend taking with someone else.

Hope I never have to go through such a course again. She tries to be helpful but, at least for me, we didn't connect. She may be a math genius but she's not a good teacher.

Won't be taking another math class at Colgate. She seemed to encourage everyone to become math majors, but she probably got a bunch disinterested in the process. Extremely hard tests, I ended up putting much more time into it than was necessary.

I'm only in my second year but Evelyn is the worst professor I have had at Colgate so far. Really hard and office hours just made everyone more confused. She clings to her office hours like it is the holy grail to help you, but they don't. Avoid if you can.

Class was really confusing, she is very hard to follow. By my observation, half the class just sat there bewildered. Need to make sure you are on top of the homework to understand. Don't think she is teaching it this semester, but she may teach it again next Fall.

One of those professors who encourages everyone to come to office hours, but it hardly helps because her tests are near-impossible. I am another one who firmly believes I would have failed if I had not taken Calculus already. Really felt bad for those taking it the first time.

If I hadn't taken BC Calc in hs I would have failed. She does not teach what will be on the tests. One of my friends failed, even though he definitely did not slack off, got good grades in his other classes. She has no respect for good, hard effort and work, only results. He always went to office hours and got help. She failed him anyway.

Absolute worst teacher ever. Extremely confused as to how she can teach a course at Colgate. Did not learn anything. Only thing that got me by was that I had already taken Calc. I feel very bad for those students who were taking calc for the first time.

She appears a nice person and tries to be helpful. However, she does not have much empathy for students who clearly try, put in the effort, but may not do as well. She gives F's every semester, almost like she plans on giving them to a few people. So, nice on the surface, deep down is much darker. Really sad.
