I took his honors ethics section. The class was very structured with a few class debates and a handful of one-page papers. Readings were given but all the material was covered in the lectures. He was tough on the papers but the exams were easy. A lot of classes were let out early if the lecture ended early.

Took him when he had an aesthetics (philosophy of art and beauty) class. His class was tough and required a lot of reading, but also fair and he gave great lectures. This class was a great experience for anyone genuinely interested in philosophy. Was one of my favorite professors.

You might as well study before you take the class because he is the kind of teacher who expects you to figure it out on your own. Some philosophy teachers seem to think if they explain the material it will be too easy? I mean considering it is your actual job you could at least respond with a question that points the student in the right direction.

It was okay. He's a good teacher but the course is only graded by exams and few points of extra credit possibly. He curves the final in some cases. I got a B luckily, otherwise I might have failed. Only recommend this if you're good at studying lots of material

A real homie and incredible human being. Love this guy. He is passionate about philosophy so if you don't really care then you will be bored and lost. The tests were incredibly easy and there is basically no homework and little studying to be done in my opinion. Book is completely optional. Probably the easiest A i will achieve in college

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK U TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE THIS CLASS BECAUSE YOU JUST RUINED MY 4.0 GPA. HE SCALES HIS TEST FROM 50 QUESTIONS TO 15 POINTS, YEAH THATS RIGHT 15 POINTS, YOU CAN ONLY MISS 7 POINTS IN THE ENTIRE CLASS TO GET AN A. PHILOSOPHY IS HARD AND ISNT ENGLISH I CAN GET AN A IN CHEM BUT NOT THIS ITS SAD. DO NOT TAKE

Really great guy who loves his job and field of study. The class is pretty easy, and he never expects too much. He assigns a lot of reading, but he doesn't enforce it. The reading is more for your benefit if you're interested in philosophy.

Dr. Ryan really knows what he's talking about. The lectures are very enjoyable, he encourages participation and feedback, and the course does not have a heavy workload. Stay off your phone, participate, and do the study guide and you will pass. All lectures are shared on blackboard and he makes himself available for office hours.

Intro to philosophy was super easy with him! You only have a few quizzes, graded study guides and a final, so it's not easy to fail this class. Attendance matters but I skipped multiple times and still got an A. He's super... weird? Or maybe it's just his sense of humor. But, it makes for funny lectures and he is a really awesome guy! Take him!

Dr. Ryan knows what he is talking about. He makes explains complicated things and makes them simple. I liked him a lot even though it was a big lecture hall. There was clear and good communication between him and the graduate students. I learned from him, some of the lectures are a little long.

Great guy and personality! Absolutely loved this philosophy class. He and his GAs made it really interesting. Pretty easy exams if you study and read the readings. Not many exams. Attend class because it is part of your grade. This class will def have you using your brain and rethinking your beliefs and ideas of the world!!

Really good prof. He's upbeat enough for you to not get bored in his lectures, which all are fairly interesting and informative. Your grade will really depend a lot on your GA, but Dr. Ryan should leave you well-off. Don't bother buying any of the books and the out-of-class readings aren't necessary. Pay attention in class and you should pass easy.

His lectures are interesting but there's either a lot of writing on a slide or just a picture. So you have to pay attention during lecture to either write down what he is saying or copy down what is on the slides. He is very into philosophy so he keeps your interest. Very nice guy and exams aren't easy but aren't crazy hard either.
