Hood is very genuine and funny. His lectures are like story time! He makes art history interesting and engaging. class attendance and participation are important if you want to get an A, not because he penalizes you, but because much of what is on the tests comes from lecture and it earns you extra credit. the course handout is the first email!!!!

It was almost three hours lecture, and I should have hated, but I loved it! He is so funny and made that three hours very entertaining. I usually hate any kind of art history but this one.

Gene is knowledgeable on his subject, and provides an entertaining lecture. He is a very personable guy. I would recommend his classes. Participation is 10% of your grade, and it is recorded on attendance cards. You have to show up and speak up.

If you write the papers, you will get 100% on them. Make sure to type EVERYTHING he says in class, and then use the study guides to fill in the blanks. Not an easy A, but deff possible!

He literally makes up words during lecture. he does not speak in parallels so i brought my laptop everyday just to keep my notes straight. 3 noncumulative mult choice tests that he gives you beforehand to study from, just keep notes of his opinions of buildings the basics and you'll be good. 3 other thought questions, 2 of which are in groups.

3 exams non-cumulative 3 thought questions & 2 of 'em are required to work on in groups: these are only 10 points each. Exams are mult. choice & he basically gives u the test as the study guide but its difficult b/c u need 2 study all of the material 2 know what he's looking for exactly. If u go 2 his office for help itll benefit u immensely

Gene is awesome. You learn so much vocabulary just from his lectures--the man loves words. He makes the class amusing. Sure, it can be boring at times as any history class can, but he tries to engage you in the material and he is very knowledgeable of the subject matter he teaches! I would recommend him to anyone

Write down what he says and do the study guide - you'll get an A. He's funny, in a quirky way, and really likes fleece vests. He also shows fairly interesting stuff, not the worse class.

OK teacher overall. Very boring voice and NOT funny, although he thinks he his! Like previously said, all you have to do in class is write down everything he says. Multiple choice tests are extremely impossible IF you don't study. On the other hand, if you study for stuff, it's really not that hard!!! I recommended course, but no fun!

For 201, all you have to do is write down key things about the artists and then the last few things he says before moving onto the slide (usually the key facts of the piece etc). His note card system for asking questions is a joke. I'm sorry, but multiple choice tests are the worst for learning material in ARTH. Plus they're very hard.

Multiple choice tests but they are still confusing. You have to take notes on everything he says because anything is fair game for the tests. Thought questions are easy and this is overall a pretty interesting class if you are at least somewhat interested in art.

Eugene obviously loves what he is teaching, and he brings that enthusiasm to class every day. He makes you use your brain, which some students don't like, but as an English Lit major in an Art History class, I learned a LOT that I didn't think I'd ever care to know. He's a great professor.

Some think that Gene is not very clear, but that's because he doesn't spell out everything for you. He asks questions to allow you to draw conclusions on your own. The tests are hard, but the class is so interesting that it really doesn't matter. And come on...I'm sure Gene was pretty cute in his day, so he deserves a higher hotness rating than 0.

Spending almost an hour and fifteen minutes on one or two slides is not only ridiculously boring but unhelpful in understanding the artistic movements. Participation may be important, but grading it to the extent he does in a lecture class is not logical. You end up with people asking irrelavent questions just to get the points.
