Fantastic prof. Interesting lectures. Very difficult short answer tests, must know the in's and outs of each communication theory. Be ready to study, and study hard.

Comment:

Dr. Spencer is a wonderful professor who pushes you outside your boundaries and forces you actually try. He is very engaging and does a lot of fun things in his classes. Would not recommend his class in your freshman first semester student. Just all in all, get ready to work your butt off for this class. His tests are hard but rewarding.

Dr. Spencer cares way too much to let you off with a good grade. Basically he'll push you harder than you think you should go, and make you memorize more than you think you can. He teaches a profound class, and expects students to really process what he's saying. I got a C on one of his papers and did not expect that.

Dr. Spencer is a great professor, he truly cares about the material that he is teaching. I was nervous about taking a "boring" rhetoric course, but this class is everything but boring! If you let it, this class could change your life, specifically the way you speak with others.

Very interesting class but it can be hard to grasp some of the material at first. Test are more about really knowing the material rather than just memorization. Really great guy and is willing to help.

Comment:

Spence is fantastic. 100% the reason I am a Com Studies major. Conveys lectures crystal clear, and is very detailed in what he expects of his students. Daily quizzes, so you need to be in class - but it is worth it. Spence has a way of lecturing on comm that you could listen to for hours. Tests are tough, but follow the guides and you'll do great.

Dr. Spencer has a heart for his students and desires that each student pursues excellence. You can't really ask for more from a professor. But he is a wonderful teacher and uses great metaphors and illustrations to communicate a point. I enjoyed his lectures and felt smarter each day. Transformative professor here.

Best teacher. Loved his organizational style: straight-forward in the info he wants you to know. Gives outlines for tests; consolidate your notes and memorize the outline, you will ace the test. Funny and engaging. Tough grader on his essays. No room for fudging.

Spence is great. He really wants to get to know his students and cares for them. He is a hard teacher but it is very rewarding. After I finished Rhetoric and Media Ethics, I felt accomplished. After taking his classes, I grew a lot as a person and it has really been life changing. He has helped me be a better student and I am thankful for that!

Spence is a great teacher. I actually enjoyed going to class, and I rarely enjoy classes. I wouldn't recommend taking it for fun. His tests are really hard, and there is a lot of memorization involved. Good luck!

Ugh - Hated rhetoric, didn't feel that the examples given to support the ideas applied and didn't feel like everyone in the class was treated equally. Unfortunetely, it is a required course for Communication Studies majors.

i was scared to death @ 1st cuz he has a reputation for being the hardest teacher in the com department for sure. But he is so fun in rhetoric with his crazy voices and costuming, etc. so many ah-ha moments in that class!
