She's pretty laid back and interested in creativity, but often spends too much time talking and theorizing. I think she worries too much about things that don't matter. As an art teacher though she is pretty helpful and although her criticisms may seem a bit rude, she knows what she's talking about.

Not a great deal of discussion on papers that you are asked to respond to. You write & submit them and then never talk about them in class. Get the sense that Helen is very good at technical and not that good at theory. She reads from text for 2 hrs (seriously). Class photo critiques end up as like/don't like comments. Class is only good 4 lab time

Helen is great. She really teaches the material with a critical, thoughtful approach to photography. Don't take her class if you want to take foundation level photographs. She expects thought provoking images and expects you to think critically about them. She will push you, be ready and willing to learn! She's also got a great sense of humor.

The way she talks is really annoying, but she knows what she's talking about and seems genuinely interested in Photo and her students. She's always telling you to do something new, but seems to have a weird taste in photographs.
