By far the most motivational teacher at FSU. Surprisingly, unlike all of my other teachers she actually speaks English. Motivates you to succeed.

A great professor with a unique view of life. Helpful when asked, but expects students to do their work without a lot of hand holding. Definitely one of the friendliest professors I've met at FSU.

Comment:

I have taken design, illustration, and a few other classes with Helen and she has taught me a lot. She is an easy teacher to learn from but the class is only as valuable as the work you put in. If you decide to just barely get by you won't learn much but if you actually want to learn Helen will help you push artistic boundaries. Excellent feedback!

I had Professor Simmons for a drawing class. Definitely not the most professional professor I've ever had. She tends to go off on tangents often and work hardly ever gets done. As long as you do the work she assigns and put at least a little bit of effort into it, you'll pass just fine.

I had her for computer graphic design and she taught us absolutely nothing. She didn't even know how to use the programs she would ask other students to help. And that's if we actually worked on anything related to the class, which wasn't often. She never stayed on topic. Don't take her if you need the class.

have her intro to graphic design.what a terrible class. when we do have class, she goes off on tangents that have NOTHING to do with graphic design. i always found myself looking around the class, seeing everyone huffing and sighing and rolling their eyes, saying "what does this have anything to do with this class?" avoid if you are a GD major.

Comment:

One of the sweetest teachers that I have ever met at FSU. She's so wonderful and helpful, I've learned how to use all the programs on the Macs. She is not my adviser but was the most helpful when I was trying to get into the Communications program and told me what classes I had to take for the next step. I Absolutely recommend taking her class!

I had her for Intro to GD, and completely hated it. I ended up changing my concentration because I couldn't have her as a teacher again. She was often late to class, gave assignments that had nothing to do with graphic design, and only gives you constructive comments on finished work, not on the drafts she requires you to make first. Student Beware

When she actually shows up for class, she often is late or ends the class very early. She doesn't actually teach a whole lot, and goes on tangents for up to an hour. If she makes an appointment with you, don't expect her to honor it. I really did not learn anything from her class and would not recommend a class taught by this prof to anyone.

She really isn't qualified to take Intro to Graphic Design. She runs it like an art class, which can have it's merit, but half the projects don't have anything to do with Graphic Design. She is frustrating and boring, and tends to go off topic to the point where you want to fall asleep. I would not recommend taking this class with her.

Not all there sometimes, Tends to ramble on a lot and lose track of what she was talking about. Doesnt teach anything about technique or graphic design, just assigns projects, then AFTER you hand them in she decides to tell you didn't balance it properly or different colors would've been better...etc etc

I love this teacher. She may not seem all there but she knows what she is talking about and she is very helpful. She will allow you to pass in makeup work, and allow you to miss class and makeup the work as long as you have a good excuse.
