I really liked this professor. She helps with pronunciation and really forces everyone to participate, even those who aren't native Spanish speakers. I feel like I learned a lot from her. I also really liked the book she chose with the interactive material.

Comment:

She is very sweet and kind. She also brings a lot of personality to class so it's fun. I'm not good at spanish at al, but I actually feel like I'm learning something in this class. As a plus she brings food sometimes.

This teacher loves to ramble about her life. She brings up random stories and likes to get into your personal life. Don't get on her bad side otherwise you'll be stuck there and she will always find something to say to you. She's a bit neurotic and it's pretty funny sometimes. I didn't learn anything from the class and I don't know how I passed

Not a good teacher because she does not teach the material. She will simply tell you to read the complicated material, and expect you to understand it. I have asked her to break it down for us in the class, and she is willing to do it, but it is still not clear because she will hurry through her poor example, and ramble on about the culture.

I didnt learn much in this class. she concentrates more on spanish culture than the language and grammar. always late. never knew what assignments were due, takes late work. i never knew my progress in the class cuz she doesnt grade everything. she's funny but didnt learn much...

I took her at city and she was awful. I really wanted to learn Spanish but taking her class didnt prepare me for the next class up. She never grades anything and tends to lose stuff. Also, I think she didnt come to class more than me.... I can guess she didn't come for atleast 5 classes.

For a beginning spanish class, i didnt learn squat and she will always talk in spanish so you wont understand her. Way too wrapped up in culture rather learning grammar.She yelled at me because i didnt do an extra credit assignment when i didnt need to-not joking. you can show up like 20 min. to a half hour late since shes always late too. AVOID!!

Upson was very unpredictable (in a bad way). Never followed a green sheet so you never knew if an exam was approaching. I dont remember her being condescending, but she is not a good professor. As a person, shes a nice woman who is always smiling. But as a professor? Boooo

The worst spanish teacher. She is rude, condescending. She doesn't even grade her the work, her T.A.'s do it. She only likes native speakers and goes way too fast. She prys into peoples personal lives in the middle of class. She is the worst, do not take her.

She is a nice lady who is very worldly and can/will teach you about cultures. The problem with her teaching is there is no structure and you never know when there will be an exam. I have taken spanish before, but if I hadnt, I would be lost. More or less a self taught course.She will help if you need it.

Probably the worst Spanish instructor in California. She teaches the class on the fly. She spends most of the time talking about culture and maybe 10 minutes on actual Spanish. She never hands anything back so you never know what your grade is. She also has a thick Spanish accent so you can barely understand her. You learn everything on your own.

Comment:

Upbeat, comical and interesting character that has alot of info on various cultures. Unfortunately, her ciriculum is not planned and she assigns alot of the work for you to learn/read on your own. Teaching technique is quite poor and she is confusing.

Comment:

Highly unorganized and without a lesson plan. She is difficult to understand and is never clear with any of her assignments, where she tells you one thing one class meeting and the opposite the next. Prof. Upson, as a person, is wonderful and very sweet.
