wow...he's not clear at all, i took calc the year before in high school and still managed to get lost. when he goes over the homework, he talks to himself while writing on the board. he made a lot of errors that the students had to correct, and kept going forward no matter how lost we were even if we asked for help. id say avoid him at all costs

Most of the comments here are true, except that the material in Applied Calc was extremely simple. You might have a chance at understanding his lectures if you have a background in computer science (something like Visual Basic would suffice, actually). In my opinion, the textbook is awful so I was lucky to have taken calculus in high school.

Avoid him at all costs. It seems like he is not interested in student success. He does not explain concepts well and does not answer questions well. He is a nice man, but not the best teacher. If you do have to take this class, go to the math lab for help.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. it doenst matter if you are a calculus whiz, or completely horrible at math, he is impossible. You think you know the material until he gives out a test and you realize nothing he taught (or should i say tried to teach) is on the test. it is HORRIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HIM FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR

Don't take this professor unless you have too! I was unable to learn most of the material in class due his inability to teach relatively simple concepts. Very impersonal doesn't take the time to learn students names. Homework is easy, but if you struggle with math, he is of little to no help. I recommend you take Rivas if math doesn't come easy.

Worst teacher in the history of teachers, ever. I honestly dread going to class, but it's not like he actually teaches during class. More like mutters to himself, writes messy on the whiteboard and frequently does the problems wrong and explains them wrong. Maybe he's just so smart he can't do the simple stuff, but never ever ever ever take him!!

Horrible teacher. Knows math but is not good at explaining it. All he does all class is call out students. We will go over a section and he will put students on the spot with questions every class. Very annoying and boring teaching style.

He is an okay teacher, not one of the best. He does, however, help his students and really cares about them. He always makes himself available and the homework problems are not impossible to do and if you do not understand it, he will go over it until you do. Really cool guy to talk to. He has done som many things with his life. REALLY AMAZING GUY!

this was NOT a fun class! he likes to write his own tests, so they don't make sense! He is a really great guy and has lots of interesting stories, but has a hard time teaching the subject! good luck if you have to take him!

Comment:

Carter xerox's the book to teach from. He doesn't explain things or understand our questions very well. He's kind of stuck in his own ways. Unfortunately he is the only teacher for this class. I did most of my learning with my peers working together. I was pretty frustrated with his teaching style. He is a really nice guy outside the classroom.

Jack is an amazingly sweet & caring man. See him all the time outside of class, stops & genuinely asks me how i'm doing & gives me a hug everytime. if i wasnt a math person i wouldn't have made it very far in his class. but i'm a math person, so i really cant say anything about hardness. kinda scattered. goes off on tangents all the time. COOL guy!

He has an undisputed bias against CS majors. I found him very difficult to understand and also incredulous towards me. I had to work extremely hard for my respective C+ and C in his classes. He seems to love Math majors though, so by all means take him if you are one.
