you get 6 projects in this class and you have the entire semester to do them. He seems like he is there to help but only if you can get his attention. He disappears from the class and is more concerned about his advanced students. his grading weird. I got 4 A projects and 2 B projects and got a B-! he marks attendance down but doesn't grade on it

Jim Chaney was at the time one of the reasons I went into ceramics. His demonstrations were very informative and useful in understanding how to throw or create pottery. Sometime in talking to him, a student might be confused, but then the student wasnt interested as much as the rest of us in the class. Thirty years later, things might be different.

Prof. Chaney was the most informative teacher I have ever come in contact with at Kutztown. He challenged us at every turn and made me the potter I am today. I had to be willing to meet him halfway, but in the end my work reflects that dedication to the craft.

Three words can sum him up. Doesn't. Stop. Talking. He often goes off on tangents about nothing and will often repeat things he's already said about 4 or five times. It takes a while to get a straight answer out of him, but he will help you if you ask for it, but it might be an hour later by the time you get an answer. AND DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK!

He likes to talk about nothing a lot. You will rarely get a straight answer out of him and he will take class time to reiterate something he has already said three times. He is also very forgetful. He wants to make multiples of every project instead of spending a lot of time on one thing. His safety procedures are outdated by decades and dangerous.

I can see why people would get frustrated with him...late for class, or sometimes wouldn't appear at all. But, it never bothered me. Helpful guy if you show interest, and a good sense of humor as well...talk to him about Japanese pottery and you'll be his best friend forever.

I just finished with his Ceramics 1 class. He is real laid back, he doesn't hover, and he is willing to help. Its not hard at all to get an A in that class. Just go, do your work, and show some interest and you'll be fine.

the questions provided in the survey do not touch on the issues Prof Jim Chaney has -- he is the worst listener i have ever encontered - HE DOESN'T PAY ATTENTION! not even to the things he says, he's not a liar, but a "forgetter" - he is one of the WORST professors at KU!!!

ok some people don't like prof. chaney but i think that's cuz you've only had ceramics 1. you need to ask him questions and put in the effort you'll get along with him just fine. if you don't bother with him and try to get his attention, then he won't bother with you and won't help you. he knows what he's talking about and is good at what he does.

Ok, don't panic! He's hard to please, but absolutely harmless. If you do your work, you get a good grade. Don't plan on learning anything though cause you really won't. Not very encouraging, but like I said, as long as you do the projects, it's not a hard course.

he's not very encouraging or open minded about your ideas. if it's something he doesn't like, he'll literally cringe in front of you and won't even tell you what's so terrible about it. oh, and be careful not to talk to him. he'll either be rude to you or he'll talk for ever (usually about a totally different subject).

this guy is rediculous, i have never thought so horribly about a teacher. he pretty much uses the studio for his own personal work and claims he doesnt have time to get anything done for the class, like a sale at the end of the semester, when if he didnt spend so much time there doing his own work maybe WE could benefit from something. just plain s

this man is a terrible teacher...unethical, narrow minded, unimaginative, he takes the fun away from creating ceramics, and the only reason this inept proffessor is still teaching is because someone gave him tenure...i know so many people who have given up ceramics because he is such a killjoy/downer

This man actually yelled at me in front of a group of students, which was very uncalled for. He could have acted like an adult and pulled me off to the side. He also played the same Santana CD in class everyday, which drove me nuts. You'll learn ceramics from him, but don't expect him to be nice.

I don't care for him or his teaching at all. This guy was my mentor, and he left me sitting in his tiny office for half an hour with country music on while he ran to the bank. Needless to say I switched to Schantz the next semester.
