Comment:
Due to the removal of our original prof (Karlis), Jan was the replacement around midterms. Pros: Very nice & professional person; easier exams(online/open-note/unlimited chances until it closed.) Cons: Not engaging in her lectures; Downgrades assignments based on her own opinion. I swore she said I am/was a journalist in almost every class.

Jan is very heavy lecturer. The only topic she knows is Journalism so I hope if you take the class it is a journalism class. Lots of videos that mean nothing to what you are learning and very confusing lectures.

Anyone who doesn't like Jan simply isn't cut out to be a reporter. She may be abrasive at times, but she is a great teacher, mother, and overall wonderful person. She gets you ready for the reporting life and if you cant handle her you cant handle it. She does her job perfectly and if you dislike her.. check yourself.

terrible at giving lectures, always seems to be rambling on about something we aren't learning. she seems confused when she is trying to teach us something, like she doesn't even know what she's talking about. shows you LOTS of videos that you don't learn anything from

Jan is a very knowable professor. For CJ 202 she really expects a lot and is very late on telling you the specifics on speeches and gives very little prep time for speeches. Although she is a very nice person and is worth the work.

This was my most beneficial class of the semester. Jan is tough for a reason, she wants all of us to become better writers. This class is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be as long as you do not procrastinate and work hard. My writing skills have improved tenfold and it's all because Jan pushes everyone to go above and beyond!

She grades very harshly, doesn't really help much and frankly she isn't really a nice person. She made me rethink the major I chose because of her class. I don't know one person in the class who enjoyed it or got a good grade. Avoid if possible. If not possible, just push through and pass the class. You won't be miserable alone.

I went into this class and initially liked Jan. until she was absent and relied on a substitute's notes to grade a 100 point presentation my group and I gave. she knocked us off points for things we HAD done, but the sub did not write them done clearly. I confronted her about this and she was defensive, and said I should be happy I got a B.

Professor Larson is the toughest teacher I've encountered, but she really does mean well and wants her students to succeed. She's intimidating, but don't let that stop you from talking to her outside of class. The most important thing about CJ222 is to not procrastinate. There's a lot of work and you won't finish by deadline if you put it off.

Jan is very unorganized and scatterbrained. The entire class was confused all the time and never knew what was going on. On the date of our final she was an hour plus late and did not apologize. Avoid her at all costs!

Comment:
For a communications professor she is a terrible communicator. The whole class was confused about what we should do for every assignment or project and due dates. The class is organized so that there is too much time between when you are required to read a chapter and when it is actually discussed in class. All the homework is useless busywork.

Yes this class was hard yes there were a lot of assignments (the LAST class you want to procrastinate on. Get going the first day, I'm serious. You'll regret putting off work for this class). But I came out a better writer and learned A LOT. Jan means well. Try your best and she can see that. She's tough, but everybody needs that kick to be better.

Jan means well, but she is very tough. It is a heavy work load, especially for an intro class. However, I truly learned a lot from this class and I know it's all because Jan isn't a pushover professor. She is willing to work with every student to better themselves as writers! If you're going in to Comm., take Jan. She'll make you a better writer.

Although she is a very kind women who is highly passionate about the subject matter, she is ungodly disorganized and hard to please. All instructions are very vague and you are often times confused and unsure of what to do. In addition, asking her to clarify things for you will only make it worse. If you are planning on taking this class, don't.

A lot of people shared their comments, then I just put an example here: I went to the front of the class and let her check my final project, she take a quick look and said loudly: are you sure you finish it? it is awful! actually I just have two spelling mistakes. Evidence here, make your own judgement.
