She is a very smart woman but very bad at teaching/communicating with students. Since the very first session of the class she has learned the name of 10 students, and she doesn't really care whether students other than those 10 learn the material or not. her teaching style is very boring and useless. iclicker makes participation mandatory. Avoid.

Why is she even a lecturer? Just reads off the PowerPoint slides. Barely touches the subject just talks about things generally. Boring. Self-absorbed. Talks slow. Tries to be funny but she is not. Just study the e-text plus do the practice questions and ud be fine. Her lecture isnt useful but iclicker makes attendance mandatory. Avoid.

Worst prof I've had, lectures were disorganized and useless, it's really sad to see such a smart woman in the science community being so bad at teaching her craft best to try and avoid her classes.

Horrible prof. She's very unclear during lectures and it's hard to follow what's she talking about. Notes are disorganized and you have to self-teach yourself by reading the textbook. Midterm and finals are long and hard. You have been warned.

She may be a good person but the class is horrible. She is extremely disorganized and her lecture notes are useless. She tries to teach concepts but she dilutes the information to the point where it isn't applicable to anything. 331 is more of an arts/pop-culture course than a science class. You have been warned!

Great prof! Notes are disorganized but is very passionate and extremely knowledgeable about her material which is very interesting. Would stay behind for hours after class to help students. Tests and labs are not so much hard as they are a LOT of work

The material in this class was very interesting, and the prof very enthusiastic, but she was quite a bit unorganized, which made it hard to understand what was required in exams, assignments etc...

This class is amazing! The material is really interesting and Jane is a great prof. The material can be a little hard at times but the effort is well worth it. The course is quite a bit of work but it is not difficult to get an A. Like anything else, you get back what you put in.

Ohmygod does Roskams suck. I don't know who wrote these positive reviews - judging by the frequency of the word "Rocks" or "Rox", it is her lab members. Grow up folks - this site is for students who really want to know about the quality (or in this case the lack thereof) of teaching.

This class was by far the most interesting class I have taken at UBC. Jane was inspiring, and with the help of Bonnie (TA), she sparked an interest in a lot of students who knew very little about the subject. A lot of time and hard work is expected, but it's definately worth it. Jane is awesome!

This was a hard class, but the prof worked hard to help explain some very complex material. She was always willing to help, and her TA was great too. It has made me want to learn even more about neural development.

Jane is by far one of the most dedicated teachers that UBC has. She also has a very creative way of teaching and this really helped me to learn the contents of the course well. She is definitely a future Nobel-laureate material and I am honored to have been one of her students! Jane ROX!!!

This is by far my favourite class that I've taken at UBC. The material was clear, and by half way through the course the expecatations were well laid out. Jane covered some complicated material but did so in a very easy to follow manner. All she expected from us was to think critically. Jane Rocks!

teaches at the level that a fourth year course should be taught. She was always open to discuss material that I was having trouble with. There need to be more profs like this to prepare us for and inspire us to do real science!!! Keep up the good work :)

Dr. Roskams expects her students to work hard. Her notes and course website are slightly unorganized and thrown together. However, as long as one studies her slides and the related sections of the textbook, then it's all good for the exams. Dr. Roskams is super cool, smart and funny!

one of the greatest profs. Before I take her class, I checked here and noticed the negative posts. I took her class anywayz and I am so glad I did. Yes, she does talk fast a bit but she makes sures you understands what she's saying. Just make sure to ask questions and you'll be fine.
