Teacher made topics very clear. She always went over the readings. No quiz, no test other than the FInal. Two papers due by the end of the term. SHe lets you choose which paper will count more for your grade. She kept me very interested in PoliSci. Although shes a tough grader she does let you write a rough draft and then have it revised.

Gave me absolutely no reason to be interested in the subject, I am not particularly political but my god the lectures are horribly boring. A few essays due and a final, a tough grader. Bottom line: I do not recommend her unless you are completely crazy about PolSci and will love any class, very boring and not easy.

Not enough time for all the material in this course to be covered. Dwyer is straight forward and will call you out on anything, make sure to do the readings and fully understand them. Precise grader on essays, go to her office hours for writing advice. Tough, super specific, exams.

Dwyer is challenging but appropriately so. IR is a broad subject field, difficult to introduce comprehensively without concurrent background in pol theory, econ, hist. She was nothing less than thorough and generous, if occasionally exasperated. But yeah, it was closer to a 300 work load than a 200. Definitely for PoliSci or related majors only.

Seems to not care about her job. Let her TA do all the grading. Did not really help when students asked her for help, then complained that students did not seem to understand the essay assignment! Maybe if you actually took out time from your "busy" schedule to help us, we would understand better!

Intelligent, capable college students: please ignore the negative comments for Dwyer. She is a knowledgeable, solid professor who [gasp] expects college students to do their work and learn from the class. Expectations and lectures are clear. For people who have difficulty in her class, the fault lies in their own ineptitude, not with Prof. Dwyer

Rude and disrespectful. Had a family event occur that was very sad and she never responded to any emails. Is knowledgeable but treats students incredibly unfairly.

Prof Dwyer is a nightmare. Tell my why otherwise intelligent/normal people seem to think that being a complete and total jerk is the way to achieve respect? Its too bad because I could tell she is knowledgeable and very intelligent. Unfortunately she also seems to believe that she is far superior to everyone else in the world. Off putting for sure.

Prof. Holt Dwyer is a very well qualified professor. However, she's a very, very tough grader. Her mid-term is much more difficult than the final. In addition, she's especially strict with citations. If you don't cite sources correctly you could end up with a B- or worse an F.

Professor Dwyer expects a lot and there is a lot of reading, A LOT! But, she really cares about how you progress in her class, if you start out doing poorly and try and make an effort to improve she takes that into account. If your taking this class to fill a requirement, I would advise against it. Its quite tough, but she is a good teacher overal

Only take it if you're a Polsci major. All your spare and homework time will be devoted to the readings of this class. I gave it a chance until the last W date, but the essay tests were ridiculous and often she did not cover all of the readings. She seems very defensive and sometimes will subtly insult students who are trying to make it out alive.

The workload is not too horrible. Yes, a lot of reading but it's Politics. You have to expect it. Her exams weren't very clear and study guide especially for midterm was pretty useless. She's a tough grader and it takes her long to give papers back. Essay topics aren't very specific either. She is also a bit all over the place but nice lady.

This is the deal with Prof. Dwyer (I took two classes with her and am expecting to take a 3rd next semester) If youre not a polisci major, dont bother, you will be very upset by the amount of work. for those of you who are interested in learning in what class what you'd usually need 4 courses for, she is the best ever.

She is tough but she told you that the first day of class and told you to drop it if you cant work hard. She expects a lot from you and expects you to be responsible college student but sometimes she is not very responsible herself. Other than that, if you are a polisci major, you should give her a try.

I took her Polsci 115 class, and boy, was it hard and intense. However, as a political science major, I think it was worth it. She is very insightful and sometimes funny. I LEARNED A LOT! I am considering my disciple in this subfield because of her. If you can't handle hard work, don't take her. Just simple as that.
