Attendance is thru an app so you should attend. The class seems easy going but the midterm and finals are the icky part. There's weekly papers, i think only 7 get collected and get graded but do not try to skip it. if you get 70s on the midterm an final but do everything else, a b is most likely going to be your grade.

This class seemed easy until I took the midterm. Class avg was 71, not bad. But I did study and it was super easy material that anyone who took US should be getting an easy A on. Otherwise the class is really light. Do the midterm, letter essay, final, and weekly critiques and you're good. I recommend studying for exams. Light class, hard exams.

Tien is a really organized professor, he uses an app to take attendance so you have to be in class. He gives a weekly reading response. A midterm and research paper and a final. Not hard at all, he's kind of funny and interesting. I would recommend , I would honestly forget I even had his class until those things are due, not an overwhelming class.

I took Professor Tien's research class and I have to admit it was quite difficult. Professor Tien really makes you work for your grade. There was weekly homework, a midterm exam and a final ten page paper. He teaches you a lot throughout the semester so you really have to pay attention to what he says or you will fall behind fast.

This class was really impersonal. The professor does not know anyone and the class was huge so no one really knew anyone else. He uses an app for attendance and participation but sometimes the app malfunctions and doesn't really work well. Overall, I was not a fan of this professor or his teaching style. I dreaded going to his class.

Professor Tien is a easy-going type of professor. He puts up powerpoints and just basically talks off from it using TopHat, which was $26. No textbook was needed for POLSC110(w) because he put up a digital copy of the textbook, but I didn't even use it. You can pass his class just by going over the powerpoints and doing the required assignments.

I liked this class but lecture is boring. There are weekly assignments that youre required to hand in a page paper every week but only 5 randomly gets graded. Do it all! Dont risk it because the one you miss will definitely be graded! One research paper at the end of semester. The discussion session teachers are very helpful. Uses TopHat.

Work is relatively simple, as are the lectures if you can tune in. Only difficulty you'll have are the tests. The tests have questions that are meant to trip you up so stay spry. Professor Tien is still an interesting and relatively chill professor who just wants what's expected of you.

Doesnt have as much work to do as you think. Material is relatively easy, as long as you pay enough attention. Didnt study much outside of research for a paper, and did well in the class. My only gripe is that he makes you use TopHat which you need: A. To pay like $32 for a subscription B. To have your phone on and ready for the entire class.

His tests are very confusing to understand, he only has two exams. You must receive an 80% in your tophat, which mean you must attend class. His tests are hard but iclicker questions arent.

Professor Tien is a knowledgeable professor and he is definitely not boring. He has a sense of humor and is actively discussing politics that we see in the news. I went into this class knowing nothing about political science, and the slides make it really easy to study for midterms. He explains thoroughly and clear. Just doesn't like questions.

This class will be boring for polsci major because it goes over basic topics. While his lectures aren't the most fun, he's still a good teacher. Only 5 weekly assignments are graded, but they're random so you better do all. You can get around the electronic attendance app but might as well come to class. Read the weekly article, not the textbook.

Professor Tien is a pretty decent professor for political science. He assigns weekly writing assignments and only grades 5 out of the many papers, so do them all well as you don't know which one will be graded. His lectures can sometimes get boring at times. He does take attendance and doesn't like tardiness. Overall he is a manageable teacher.

Reading responses due every week - of all, 5 are graded. Lectures are slightly repetitive if you read the textbook well (btw the textbook has an online link that has chap summaries/pract quizzes). DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THE SEMESTER-LONG PROJ. You will hate yourself. Mid-term and final were both essay questions, NOT MC. Uses TopHat for attendance

Prof. Tien required 3 class presentations (were not stressful at all especially since the class was supportive and added to the discussion). Weekly writing assignments that helped with the readings. The midterm was a draft for the research paper that was due at the end of the semester. Always accessible and Highly Recommended

One of the favorite classes in my first semester of college. There are weekly writing assignments (only one page) based on articles from the syllabus , a midterm, project on a historical site in New York, and a final. You definitely have to work hard for this class but it's not so bad if you work hard. Would definitely recommend!

He says the word "Right" A LOT. Wish his lectures were a bit more interesting, he just bases himself off his powerpoints. Weekly one page assignments & lots of reading. Overall, if you do your work & come to class you'll be fine.

Not easy but definitely manageable if you do all the work. Only two tests and one paper but would have a page long paper due every week. The grades depend on your TA.

Tien is an amazing professor whether you like POLSC or not. There are 2 midterms, a final, and a short historical paper. Exam questions are based on his lectures so as long as you take notes of every slide and listen you will pass without reading the textbook. I would definitely take again. TA's are the ones who grade everything and are amazing.
