Professor Esbenshade is really amazing and the topics she teaches are relevant and eye-opening. She cares a lot about her students. Class is mainly discussion based. There are short assignments almost every week, but if you do them all, you'll be in good shape for the midterm and exam. Group project at the end is easy and she keeps groups small.

I like Professor Esbenshade! She is reserved, but very nice. There are short assignments about every other week but they are easy. This was one of my favorite classes because the material was engaging and inspiring. Exams are not too bad as long as you take notes on everything said in the class especially when she writes on the white board!

The class is part lecture, part small discussions about whatever topic or homework you're going over. Usually weekly homework, some quizzes every two or three weeks, one group video on a topic. One short paper is needed to go along with your video. Lectures are very engaging and relevant to our daily lives.

She's a really sweet person and cares about her students. The class was set up as discussions (no lectures) and the midterm/final are all short answer (super easy). Caveats: Tons of reading, will go a few mins past end of class, and makes you get into groups to talk. The assignments seemed pointless as first, but you really do learn in her class!

Took this class because I'm interested in learning about immigrants and refugees, totally regretted it. Every. Single. Class. is a discussion, she doesn't lecture & just makes us sit in a circle and discuss. She also grades very strictly on the essays as they're 60% of your grade. Only good thing was the volunteer work, that was a great experience.

She's a really sweet professor. Pros: Interesting topics/discussions, she doesn't lecture- it's primarily students talking, easy to talk to, midterm and final both completely short answer -not too difficult. Cons: Tons of reading, tons of homework assignments, TONS of group work, goes on to the last second of class, will call on you.

This is an unusual and tiny class, but it is very much worth it. It takes school out of the classroom and applies it to the real world. Very rewarding

Dr. Esbenshade is the reason why I'll be sad to graduate... She is such an impactful professor and is extremely passionate about what she lectures. If you ever have the chance to take her, you won't be disappointed because she pushes you to grow into a better person!

Dr. Esbenshade is a fantastic professor. She is very helpful and wants her students to succeed. She is kind of a shy person but none the less she is great at her job. She inspires me to create equality in the world. Check out her taxi driver study!

She was incredibly patient and very helpful with all the concepts. The internship opportunity is something I extremely valued from the course, but also our discussion which she lead. She was also able to to clarify the ideas of others in discussion. She is extremely clear when grading essays with a thorough review attached.

Took her for Honors 413: A lot of article readings and novel readings. You write 4 short papers (3-4 pages) and 1 final paper (7-10). You have to commit hours for an internship and write weekly 1 1/2 page journals. Every week there will be group/seminar-style discussion in class. As long as you keep up readings & do work, you'll pass with an A.

This class allowed me to refine my writing skills and examine immigration from a very analytical perspective. Dr. Esbenshade is extremely well-versed and engaged with the class. I couldn't have asked for a better professsor or more useful and thought-provoking course of study.

Jill is the best teacher in this entire department and really the only decent one. She is the absolute best. I wish she would teach more classes so I could be in her class again. She is very smart, socially aware and politically astute. Genuine person, not a fake like most of the teachers in the Department.

Professor Esbenshade is fabulous! The class had a lot of reading and short assignments, but they were all interesting and relevant to class discussion. She was always available for office hours and her tests are straight from the readings and her lectures. It's hard not to do well.
