He's kind of all over the place. Some of the worst grading system I've seen. Though, he teaches well and the class is structured in a way that if you do the right things you can get an A in this class. To those who will take this class: getting an A is NOT easy so you'd better put in the work. The grading leaves NO room for error.

Comment:

Prof McGrath was fantastic. I personally dont care about mechanics but his lectures are really fantastic. He does a great job introducing concepts and explaining how to go about solving the problems youre expected to do in a very logical and concise way. Homework is unnecessarily difficult at times due to grading but the class teaches you a lot.

Comment:

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful professor. Dr. McGrath really knows how to teach mechanics and he is very, very direct with what is expected with every test. Didn't go to this class for majority of the semester and it is one of my biggest regrets. Class isn't curved and it's also not that easy of a class, lots of work and high expectations.

He has his personal labs and he is much more concerned with his labs than he is with the class. It took 3 weeks to schedule a meeting with him in regards to an exam and 2 days after that meeting was the next exam. Also he reuses his notes since 2003, when the class was started and he is starting to misinterpret those notes.

Learned a lot of great tricks for ways to think about and approach problems from him. Class is definitely not his first priority, but he is a brilliant man and I very much so enjoyed his class.

Comment:

This professor is really clear and a great lecturer. He tries to be helpful, but doesn't necessarily give it to you so that it's too obvious. His homeworks are extremely time consuming, and problems sets don't really make sense... tests are worth about 65% while being ridiculous (mainly time shortage). Other than being demanding, he's good.

This professor reminds me a lot of Uncle Joey. He was really dedicated, and even bought my b.s. about falling behind and being concerned yadda yadda. Very willing to help students, nice person.
