This class wasn't easy, but I have hated history classes until this one. If you actually try to listen in class and actively take notes, it is very interesting. His tests and quizzes were sometimes tricky, but if you take good notes and study them, you will do good. He is the sweetest professor ever and curves grades at the end of the class!

Very heavy lectures. He knows and understands that all of his students are not going to be history majors. Still he does try hard to make the material interesting. He does accommodate his students, and does allow make up testing with a Dr.s note. His test are very straight forward. The information on exams come straight from in class discussions.

Such a nice guy, and he tries so hard, but his lectures make it difficult to decide what was important and what wasn't. He tries to make it interesting, but I never could focus in there. I always recorded the lecture on my phone to make sure I didn't miss anything if I zoned out.

Dr. Atkins is a great guy. His class is pretty hard if you don't like lecture. His tests are based 100% off lectures. There are 6 quizzes based off the reading, but that's usually the only time you really need to read. Some of his test and quiz questions are vague. But he's really nice, knows what he's talking about, & tries to make it interesting

Really nice and definitely knows what he's talking about, but he jumps from topic to topic very quickly which can make for some confusing notes when you try to study. Don't try to reschedule a test or assignment with him. He won't let you turn it in on a different date unless you ask months in advance.

Class was fast paced and interesting. No electronics in class. Tests are a mix of multiple choice and essay questions, with a list of possible essay topics given a few days before the test.

I loved his class! I'm a history major and I took him on a whim for my first upper level. He is fantastic in lecture and can cram so much material into 75 minutes! You will learn from this class. His tests are all essay/written ID, which can be difficult if that is not your forte. I will be taking him for more courses and would highly recommend.

The class is sometimes difficult to sit through-it can be very boring if you don't have interest in the topic. He is very nice though, and willing to answer any questions outside of class.

I had Dr Atkins for a gen ed history and an upper level. Both were amazing. He made me decide to be a history minor even though I'm a science major. The best thing about him is his passion for history. He also realizes that life happens and is willing to work with you on things beyond your control.

This is one of the greatest history classes that I have ever taken. The man is a genius in his field. He made me want to double minor. I have learned more in one semester than I ever did in all of my years in highschool. If you want to a very straight forward class that is very informative and funny, take this one, you will not regret it.

He's literally one of the nicest professors I've ever met! I love it when he sings songs or gets really passionate about a story. He knows teh most random cool stuff, you'll never leave class without learning something new

Take GOOD NOTES during lecture! If he'll let you use a tape recorder record each lecture to help study for not only each test, but for the CUMULATIVE final. I only read the book when something was unclear b/c it was always in more detail than what he wanted us to know. He's passionate & knows what he's talking about. Highly recommend Atkins!!!

Test can be hard, but if you take good notes (which you need to figure out how to do from day one) and study, you should be fine. He is helpful and really knows what he is talking about.

He is a great professor! His voice can get a little monotone, so it can be a little hard to pay attention sometimes. His tests do require a lot of studying, but he is very clear about what will be on the test and what won't.

Kind of a shy mousey guy, but funny. Talks get a little on the slow side, but he is super nice. Will give extensions and is really reasonable.
