Dr. Mauk is an amazing professor. He made me love rhetoric, I was excited to go to class every time and learn more from him. He made the subject really interesting and his passion was contagious. I have already signed up to take another class with him next semester.

Dr. Mauk is incredible, take him for 111 and you'll never want another professor. He is very helpful during office hours. He likes students to really think outside the box and look deeper than the obvious meaning of things. Dr. Mauk = Brilliant!

Dr. Mauk is an exceptional professor who shows much dedication to the art of rhetoric. Even though his class was very hard (I never took an honors class before), John encouraged me to keep at it and to put forth my best effort. He is a very kind individual and is one of NMC's finest assets. I highly recommend his class. He also likes to grade hard.

I took Honors 112 w/Dr.Mauk, as he was recommended to me by others. He is AMAZINGLY SMART! Ask him questions, show him your trying your best, and he'll really help you. Show up randomly,don't try hard, he'll not favor you, don't blame him, blame yourself. I'm taking Eng 228 soon with him inviting me :) hes fun to talk 2 outside class too :)

Good teacher, should not teach a 200 level class, Not clear when asked questions, always seemed to have too much on the mind. Graded harder then what was taught in class. Not much was taught in class, attended everyclass. Did not seem to care about his students, other then their names.

I thought Dr. Mauk was an amazing instructor.Opened my eyes to a totally new view of writing.He was able to inspire.Just do your work, put your time. If you need help go to his office.I actualy had such a great experience in 111 w/ him i had to take him again in 112. if there was a 113 i had to take i wouldnt have any other instructor.

Now, I'll grant you that one of my friends refers to me as an "Englishy" person, so my opinion might be a little biased, but I think Dr. Mauk is awesome - definitely one of the best professors I've had so far and easily one of the best at the college. If you work hard, he'll bend over backwards to help you. The class is hard, but worth it.

He is really knowledgeable and well-spoken. Excellent if you are willing to work very hard. The entire grade rests on 3 big essays though, with no points anywhere else, making it a very hard class, my hardest here. However, the education received in this class is comparable to a top university.

I thought he was an excellent teacher. He is very well spoken and obviously enjoys teaching. From someone who would have rather been able to compass out of English class he gets a thumb up. I would recommend him as a teacher.

I received poor marks on nearly every paper even after asking for his suggestions and following his guidelines. Be wary of being tardy or absent from his class more than once or twice, this swings his opinion of you drastically. Very interesting and intelligent man, but also very biased toward his favorite students.

he does have his fav's if you are one you should do great, but if not than watch out. marks you down for things he did not bother to spend more then one day on the entire course. Like I said if you are a fav you will do fine, if not getting ready to do some kissing up... He is extremly stuck on himself.

When I say his classes are hard it is a positive thing. This teacher is challenging, insightful and highly intelligent. If you are open minded and interested seriously in learning you will love him. If you want to do well in his courses I suggest coming up with a statement that is crazy and trying find its truth. Step away from your normal thoughts

My favorite English instructor ever. I learned more about writing in one semester with him than in my entire academic career. He made me a better thinker as well as a better writer.
