Comment:

Exams were difficult. The first two exams were taken at home online so you could use your notes, but the final was in-person (no notes) and comprehensive. You had to do well on the exams to do well in the class. He sets you at a pace to read 2 chapters/week. There was no feedback for why you lost points on the homeworks.

Professor Orife is strictly at IUP for his paycheck. He does not answer to students in a timely manner nor does he care about the students issues within his course. Would not recommend this professor to any student.

Do NOT take Professor Orife's courses if you can help it. He is one of the top three most notably uncaring professors that I've had in my whole four years at IUP. Straight up has absolutely no interest in talking to his students, if he didn't have to answer your questions, he wouldn't. Wasted my tuition money on dude's classes *sigh*

Comment:

Class avg is 58 right now. Exam avg are 1st55, 2nd 64. Grading is entirely arbitrary. Attendance isn't mandatory but he has a sign-in every class and it's your participation grade. 3-4 assignments, 3 exams, one group project. Project introduced near end of semester. Weights of grades weren't correct in Moodle the week of finals. Have fun.

Grading scale is so inconsistent. You'll be lucky if you pass any of his in class exercises. Tests are extremely difficult. Doesn't help his students at all. The class average is a 55 percent and he blames the students for not doing well. If you can avoid taking him, please do so.

Listen to the reviews. They are correct. Absolutely hated this class when I took it!Not very detailed on case studies, they seem opinionated. He rides the line of inappropriate so I assume he knows the rules! Overall he curved the grade in the end and I was happy. He was not as generous for others on class grades.

Comment:

I had him in the summer & hated him. I either got A's or C's (no in-betweens) on weekly papers with no feedback as to why. His exams were 100 questions. Extremely rude & arrogant in class wide emails, made sure to let everyone know he wouldn't round up final grades. Assignment dates on Moodle didn't correlate with the syllabus. Just awful.

Syllabus- Vague Graded- on 4 assignments (2 tests, 2 group) Expects you to physically meet with your online group Some students are in CHINA His grading system isn't even flawed, it's garbage. Unclear to say the least Gets irritated when you don't log on EVERY SINGLE DAY Opt out of his class, and take literally anyone else in department

Lectures are about absolutely nothing related to the class. 3 exams and thats it, no other assignments outside of class. Never curves the exams and the average grade of the whole class for each exam was no higher then a 55%. Don't even bother taking him as a professor. Wasted so much time sitting through pointless lectures and failing every exam

5 years ago I had this prof. Knows his subject! Hard exams, read book, learn statistics! He is so annoying at times, and funny at others. Intolerable during the semester, but I admire and respect him. Never forgotten how he challenged us to become better. He will help you when you ask for it! And he loves a good beer! Curved grades in the end!

Just awful. Extremely unclear with deadlines, lectures had nothing to do with exams. If you try talking to him after class he will be shorter than short with you and you will almost never get your way. Heavy accent so hard to understand at times. Calls students out in class trying to make jokes but really just makes the student feel awkward. 0/10.

There was a severe lack of communication between the Professor and the students. He continuously changed the Syllabus without notice. Never assigned Case studies that were required. Finally had to adjust the grading scale to accommodate the lack of assignments. Missed an A by percentage points. Didn't give feedback on group projects.

Dr. Orife is a very difficult man to describe. I DO NOT dislike him as a person, however, I do dislike the way he runs his classes. I've had him twice in my college career and hopefully I'm done. He is very mysterious when it comes to grading, it's a miracle not to fail every assignment. Tests are really your only hope and they're tough as well.

First of all, his syllabus did not match his exams one bit. For example, CH.10 was covered on the 2nd exam yet the syllabus said to read it the last week of class for the final.. Second, I'd like to know how he grades case applications. He gives "feedback", but I've only seen "Yes." on mine and no further explanation as to what was wrong or missing

Worst prof at IUP. Just don't do it. It's a miracle I got a B (I think he curved grades at the end because everyone's were so bad) because I had a D at midterm. He's rude too.

I have been putting off taking this in class due to all the awful reviews. When I saw it online I thought how bad could it be? I have to say that hes the only professor who's made me dislike him so much without speaking or meeting him once. Tests are really long and monotonous. NEVER take any class with this professor if you don't have to.

Comment:

I'm a pretty lazy student and typically got low B's in most classes. I took Orife online, and it was the easiest class I've ever taken, and I ended up with a 96%. I have no idea why his reputation is so bad. Assignments and grading was crystal clear, and his deadlines were more than fair. Tests take awhile though, that would be my only complaint.

Dr. Orife is by far the best professor I have ever had. These reviews make me so angry, because they are so far from the truth. His old-school teaching style is admirable. I learned so much from this man, and I am excited to schedule him for more classes. Yeah, his tests are challenging. But last time I checked, it's about LEARNING, not an easy A.

Comment:

Orife is so bad that I had to take time out of my day to warn you about him. He is a tenure professor and has no concern for students at all. Late to class, cant understand him and does not follow any structure. Prime example of someone who has credentials to teach but has no idea how to do so. Only regret I have from IUP was taking his course.
