This class is basically 2 exams one of which is in the middle of the smester and the other is the final, the final is based on the 2nd part of the semester rather than the whole semester. You read 2 short stories a week for prepare for your class and in class all you do is talk about them. Then you have to turn a weekly 1 page journal. Overall easy

I took him along with Alfred Atwood (for the Greatest movies of All Time class) & it was the easiest A of my life. 11/10 would recommend; I even got my sister to take the class thats how great it was. Super easy, no notes required because he posts all the powerpoints. Barely used the textbook. Gives you all the exam questions before hand.

He knows what he is talking about and he is a great professor. His lectures are very helpful and bring up relevant thoughts about the material I wouldve never thought of. He does assign weekly journals though but that is not really a big deal in my opinion.

Get ready to be bored! Attendance is mandatory, 4 or more missed classes = drop one letter grade, no excused absences. You read about 11 plays and take quizzes every Thursday. I used spark notes online it seemed to help. Bring a laptop or something to keep you from falling asleep. No slides, no notes, he just talks and talks and talks.......

I took Film Genre with him. Class was interesting because we watched movies, but any other time It was John just rambling on irrelevant things or stories from 20 years ago. There were times when I wanted to tell John to just stop talking and put the film in. Doesn't care about attendance which is great.

Pretty easy class. This class was a Shakespeare class. Read about 10 plays. Write three papers and have several in class writings. Fair grader on papers. In class you just discuss plays, but he doesn't make you participate. Just show up to class and you'll do fine.

I've actually had him for many different classes. He is my favorite professor at the university. He has a strong passion for his teaching, and wants his students to succeed. If you read the material and participate, you will have no problem with his classes. I highly recommend his classes for all students

The tests are hard because he just gives you a quote and you have to decide which Shakespeare work it's from but he's a fair grader. I had two classes with him, I'd take another one.
