Comment:
Attendance for this class is not mandatory, but don't bother going. He talks about topics often unrelated to what needs to be taught. I need to learn microeconomic principles for my major, yet I could not tell you a single thing about the class despite my regular attendance. If you value your time, don't pick this class and let this prof waste it.

Professor Hakim is a wonderful man, but I think its time for him to retire. He cares about his student a lot, but when it comes to grading, I still do not understand how he does it. Received B's on both exams (straight out of the homework questions), got 100% on the homework, went to every class, and participated and ended with a B-. Dont ask how.

Professor Simon Hakim is an exceptional teacher, very interesting and cares for his students. He brings many current examples to explain complicated economic models. He is very fare in grading, and likes to keep in touch with his students. I attended both his principles of Microeconomics and privatization classes and I highly recommend him.

Please do not take. Rants the whole class and doesn't even cover all of the topics. You will only do good if you took economics before.

He is a very easy going teacher. I don't understand how people fail his class. All of the mid term questions are directly from the homework. He's a sweet old man that may be a little boring but he loves his job!

Comment:
For some reason Hakim lectures were completely unbearable. His English is decent (though def. not perfect), but he goes over the same thing at least a hundred times. Final grades consist of 2 exams + online homework, and there's an EC presentation. Also, you MUST read the "extra" book (not the main one) before the final. I didn't and I regret it.

Hakim was pretty boring, don't get me wrong, but the class was not very demanding and I got an A without much effort. He offers 10% extra credit if you do a 5 minute powerpoint presentation about a current event. The homework was a little difficult, but didnt count for much. Read the text book + participate (a little) + presentation A

DO NOT TAKE HAKIM! Did you catch that?DO NOT TAKE HAKIM! I truly wonder how he still has a job. In all sincerity any student that passes this class must have already taken Economics. The book is terrible due to the lack of graphs and don't even get me started on Online HW. He rants about economics, politics, and rants the entire class.

Professor has no idea what he is doing or saying, not sure how he still has a job. In all sincerity any student that passes this class must have already taken economics or must have read an economics textbook. He doesn't even know what textbook we need. He knows nothing about economics or politics, and rants the entire class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Poor Teaching! It is really hard to understand him, and he constantly skips around through the lesson. Although he curves the tests and other assignments in the class it is hard to understand his grading system. He tells you that the letter grade matters rather than the points you earned but it is a lie. I did not barely learned economics.

Horrible professor. Do not take him!!!!! His lectures are pointless and don't teach you anything. Homework is nearly impossible and even he does not know how to do it. Tests are hard but big curves. Get project done early in semester. Get him to know your name!!

One of the worst teachers Ive had so far, he teaches you absolutely nothing. You have to teach yourself everything from the textbook on your own. The homework is impossible and he refuses to help you with it. If you ask him questions he will not answer them. I advise you not to take him as your teacher, economics is hard enough as is.

He is a very unfair teacher. He is not clear, and he swears he is. In the end you end up having to pay for his lack of clarity. He is all about privatization and if you disagree with him, he will give you a very hard time.Don't take his privatization class, in fact don't take any of his classes. He is tenured..so u get the point.Im not even hating

The multiple choice questions on the test come right out of the questions he puts on his astro account. Hes kind of a jerk when it comes to grading though, I got a 68/70 on the midterm, and I think I did just as well on the final, but I got a C+. I guess he weighs the homeworks (I only did one out of the three) or the presentations really heavy..?

THIS GUY! WOWWWWW so he gives the same test and people have it so most people get A's on the exam. However if you are armed only with the test bank or you heaven forbid study then your SCREWED because he curves down. 66 out 70 is an A-. really. and he walks out during the exam. its so easy its actually hard. never thought I would experience this

He seems like a nice man but he is very unfair with grading. I know he adjusts the 10% for particiaption to his advantage to give you what he wants. ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS AS YOU CAN. If he gets to know your name, you are good. Read and the study the book and know how to explain your presentation, because he will ask many questions.

Got a 90 and an 86 on the two exams and did excellent on both presentations and barely got a B- with the curve!! How does that add up. And he doesnt count the 10% for class participation that he promises on the syllabus. However, he is a nice guy, his method of calculating a final grade just does not add up!!

Not the best micro teacher ever. His teaching methods suck, his tests are hard so do not expect to get a good grade without studying. The upside is that he has big curves on the exams. Make sure to do good on his class projects, that will really push your grade up.

Good teacher. He teaches what is required in the real world, specially the 'World is Flat' book. He is the most accomodating Professor I have dealt with so far. We need more Professor like him.
