He says he promotes student learning but rejects questions from student who are prepared. Says things like dont get confused or you are wasting class time or Im not going to repeat myself. Also gives out a lot homework if he doesnt like your class. You have 3 tests 1st and 2nd are 22.5% and final is 40% of your grade. Take another teacher

Comment:

I have actually had him for several classes, workshops, and Project MATH. He is one of the best educators I have had the pleasure of studying under. If you do your job as a student (go to class and office hours, study for tests, do your hw), I promise that you will learn more from him than almost any other instructor. A true wizard at teaching.

I have never regretted signing up for a class more. He is unorganized, has no respect from his class and is passive-aggressive/petty with grading. He adjusted the his grading criteria for the course the last three weeks of class (including the amount of tests). Please save yourself the frustration and money, he sets his class up to fail

Comment:

Gives homework once a week which is not bad, lectures are definitely pretty boring. However, he is a very nice professor and cares for his students. You definitely got to put in work, show up to class, do your homework, and study to pass the class. He hold exam review sessions which are very helpful.

He tries his best to teach future educators the many methods and perspectives that they may come across with their future students. He provides approaches and tools that steer away from the procedural methods that have been ingrained in students within the last couple of decades. This class is challenging but useful, be open minded and prepared.

This class is terrible. I leave class more confused than when I come in. Every single class! He gives the homework on new material before it's taught, takes points off, does not grade on effort, and expects very long explanations, so if it's not the way he was thinking about the problem you are wrong. You teach each other.

Jorgen is a great guy but his class is hard, especially with grading. He will mark you down if it's not something HE would say. However, he is very accessible outside of class and will help you A LOT when you go into office hours. He calls on people and puts them on the spot which isnt the best but he tries his hardest to get everyone involved!

Passionate about Math and especially math education. He expects a lot and is honest with his constructive criticism. He will make you a better mathematician and math teacher if you are willing and wanting to get better.

He is so passionate about what he teaches. This is my second semester in his classes and I want to take him next semester too. He really wants his students to succeed. He still goes into the field to stay up to date on teaching young students. Caters to anyone asking for help.

Please do yourself a favor and do not take his class. He is very confusing, he is a super tough grader, every answer on homework, test, quiz needs an explanation and he will take points off if it's not something he would say. He puts people on blast and he is rude ,specially when you don't understand. Never again will I take a class taught by him!

I had to BEG him to update everything submitted to blackboard. If you miss a class, he notices. He will call you out if you don't pay attention for a second. Very judgmental. This is the class I had to put most of my effort in. Expect loads of homework. He expects you to know material before learning it. Too much expectation. Don't take this class.

Comment:

Berglund is a pretty cool guy not that great of a teacher. He likes to put you on blast in front of the whole class if you do not voluntarily participate. Most of the time he gives you work to do the night before he teaches it and if you don't know how to do it on your own. Then say goodbye to your points. I do not recommend taking this guy.

I was taking his math 120 in last year during the summer session. He talked nice and assigned homework everyday from the text book problems. However, his exam was really hard and questions were ambiguous. He gave us the exam review sheet, but it does not help for exams that much. He is very hard grader and like students who get a good grade.

He is a very nice guy but he is a super hard grader and after an exam he has a tendency to be judgmental if you did not perform well. What I suggest is to get a private one-on-one tutor, because that best helped me.

Taking him is the worst decision you will ever make. I feel verbally abused by him almost everyday & he is extremely disrespectful to his student. His class is filled with rude comment as well as all of his feed back on homework. I feel unwelcomed in his class and office hours and because of him I am worried I will fail a class for the first time.

Fantastic teacher. Being a mathematics major having graduated with 2 bachelors and a minor all in mathematics I have had Dr. Berglund 4 or 5 times. His tests are really hard or too long, but the amount of knowledge gained from him is exceptional. He treats office hours much different than class hours, so go to his office!!! Super helpful.

He is a great teacher. This was my first time taking a calculus class so i expected it to be really hard. To my surprise it rally wasn't too bad. He is super helpful and stays after class for 2 hours everyday to help students. My favorite thing about him is he wants students to get the concepts and discourages memorizing things. TAKE HIS CLASS

He is very nice and friendly when he wants to be. He does present the necessary material....but assigns hw that does not relate to anything we learned in class. If you do not understand something go to his office hours and make sure he knows you!!!!!
