He's a bit odd, but he really isn't as bad as the reviews say. Class was pretty chill; take notes and do the hw assignments and you will be set for the tests. Grades were due yesterday, and he still hasn't put them in (??), which is frustrating bc he never put in grades for anything, so we never knew what we had unless we calculated it ourselves.

By far the worst professor Ive taken. I never knew my grade, his grading was inconsistent, handwriting ineligible so you never knew what you did wrong. At one point I got just the bounds wrong and he took of 20/25 points from the problem. To the point where Im more worried about him liking how I wrote it then me actually knowing the material.

Dr. Akin was a very dysfunctional professor, but I liked his teaching style. My only complaint is that he started the semester off way too slow and we had to pay for it in the end. Tests are very similar to homework, and he does not give homework every class. Going in to this class just be prepared to take notes and remember that Akin is strange.

I am concerned about this man. Good grasp of math, vague grasp of reality. He explains stuff well, but is very boring and I haven't known my grade at any point in this class. Very obsessed with glare on the chalkboard, and showed up one day with chalk on the inside of his mouth so... there's that. I don't think he's changed clothes all semester.

Homework is very easy but is only worth 10% of the overall grade. 90% of your grade is tests. Lectures are very boring but as long as you copy down what he writes on the board you will be fine.

He spent three weeks on the equation of a line. The lectures were repetitive and abstract concepts were never explained. This man sucked on some chalk, had it all over his face, and continued like nothing happened. I emailed him a few times; he never got back to me. At no point did I ever know my grade. The worst class I have ever taken.

Adequate at explaining concepts, but incredibly dry and boring. Extremely slow-moving - often did the exact same examples, numbers and all, multiple times across classes. Homework and tests were both extremely easy, to the point of not adequately preparing me for more advanced math classes.

Didn't open the text once. He had hand-written homework, so you actually learned the material rather than using Slader. He was fairly disorganized and not the best at staying on track, but he definitely made the class easy and straightforward. He didnt enter grades online, and his syllabus wasnt accessible, but most take this great prof for granted

The lectures might be quite dull sometimes but overall I enjoyed him. He did a good job of explaining material and was helpful during office hours. He also has a dry sense of humor but he is quite awkward.

I did not learn a lot in this class, and it was honestly a waste of time to even show up. We learned very arbitrary disjoint topics with no cogency or motivation. Overall, if you want an easy A, take him. If you want to learn anything at all, don't.

Professor Akin was one of the worst math instructors I have ever come across. He does not know how to teach a class. He is knowledgeable of math but he cannot properly communicate anything. He overexplains basic calculus concepts while simultaneously breezing through difficult linear algebra concepts. The only pro is that tests & hw are easy.

Best professor in the math department. Awesome person with genuinely interesting things to say about everything. Knows lots of facts about culture, biology, history of mathematical symbols, etc. Helpful in class and in office hours. Tests are fairly easy and straightforward. Take him if you get a chance. You will learn a lot about life.

He is a very odd man but the homework was not bad, it was basically an exact copy of the examples he does in class. His tests are a little difficult but he is a surprisingly lenient grader.

Very OCD about notation and his writing on the board, will erase and rewrite the same thing multiple times. Do not make any sort of distraction in his class. He is at least thorough in explaining things, but only really mumbles at the board. Be prepared to learn things on your own.

He's very thorough in teaching abstract algebra, just in case you had crappy teachers prior to him. Exams are just like the homework. HW is short and to the point. I didn't think I would like the 40% homework one 20% midterm and then a 40% final, but it was fine. Class is fairly easy if you do the homework, which comes directly from lecture notes.

Kaan is very OCD, in that he will rewrite something 3 times, even if its correct the first. Aside from his quirks, he knows the material very well. He does make several mistakes in class, which people would correct him on. He grades pretty leniently, unless he realizes that you didnt put enough work in (he looks at attendance). Went on tangents.

Professor Akin is definitely not a people person, but he teaches you what you need to know. He gets distracted by noise, but it helps to break up the class time. Tests are very straightforward. Great example of not over-complicating the material. Just pay attention, work out the examples on your own, and get an A. No other Calc3 prof is as easy.

I'm not really sure what the negative reviews are all about. Lectures are straight forward and to the point and follow the book exactly. Tests and HW are identical to problems in class, no curveballs. Dr. Akin is also one of the nicest guys ever and will help with anything you need outside of class. If you put in the effort you will make an A.

Comment:
Dr. Akin is decent at getting the material across in his lectures. He's very precise and writes good notes on the chalkboard. However, his very short homework assignments (4-6 problems) may lull you into a false sense of security, so work extra problems. He does tend to curve exams, however. He's very eccentric but he means well and is a nice guy.

Comment:
All he does is stutter as he writes stuff down on the board. Every time I tried to negotiate grades, he would brush it off by stuttering nonsense that makes him sound reasonable. He wants you to do the homework with precise detail despite the fact that I can barely read the writing on the board. He is hypocritical and unhelpful.
