I took chemistry before and I hated it when I took prof Comais class I was terrified I was going to fail but I couldnt fail this class because of my program when I got behind she was always ready to help me after class in her office and showed me how to solve what ever chem problems I had shes amazing I would even take another chem with her

She takes her time to make sure that everyone understands the material, both in lecture and in lab. She'll give you plenty of opportunities to improve your grade and gives prompt feedback on all hw, labs, quizzes and tests . If she sees you struggling, she'll be the one to approach you first and offer you extra help.

Comment:

She definitely makes you work for your grade but she is a fantastic teacher overall. I learned a lot and I attribute that to her passion for chemistry. She also gives you plenty of opportunities to pass or bump up your grade (extra credit, quizzes, dropping low grades etc). There are also no lab quizzes, which was a relief.

She goes on and on in lectures and will ignore anyone who raises their hand to ask a question. In a moment she does answer a student she's rude about her answer. I usually just looked up the material we covered and watched online videos on everything. The only reason I passed was because I didn't study her notes.

If you are a good student, you pay attention, you study ,and you do all your work, you should be fine. She is an interesting professor. Sometimes funny, sometimes rude and disrespectful. I never used my textbook. The final is optional. She does give study guides. Lab is easy, just follow the directions. Overall, a decent professor.

I'm not very good at Chemistry, but she really does want to help you when you need it and wants you to ask questions if you don't understand. I think she's a little misunderstood. I've gone to her for extra help and she was patient and helpful. Her lectures are good although sometimes she moves fast. She always gives a review sheet before a test

If you love lectures and don't like to have things explained to you she's perfect. If you try to go to her for help or ask a question she gets annoyed and tells you to figure it out on your own. This women will basically tell you to wing it and hope for the best I completely taught my self all semester.

This Professor will make you work really hard in making it in her class, but she is fair and will take her time to explain anything to you! She thought me a lot about Chem. She will give you a review sheet prior to tests which are really helpful. You must attend her lectures otherwise you get lost.

She would yell at my class when we asked questions. The class was afraid to speak up when we didn't understand anything. Then she would get mad when we didn't do something correctly because we didn't understand it. What kind of logic is that. I was beyond surprised when she told me to leave and not take the final because I had an A in the class.

Worst professor ever. Kids literally got in fights with her in the middle of class because of how bad of a teacher she was. She doesn't teach anything, and then will fail you even if you study hours and hours worth. She doesn't care about her students at all . Take her if you want to study real hard and still do miserably.

I agree with the two comments below me. She is the worst professor I have ever had . If you ask a question she will yell at you, & embarrass you in-front of the class by basically implying that you're stupid. I am a straight A student & got a C in her class. I've NEVER had a worst experience in my life. Please for your own sake, don't take her.

Worst professor I have EVER taken at Bergen. She is only a Lab professor and she is the worst teacher ever. Everyone in lab had an A in lecture and was either failing her lab or had a D. Take her if you want to be miserable and fail a lab. Not to mention she is ignorant, and needs a serious attitude check (if you ask her a question, she will yell.)

her class helped change my life. i learned a lot, not only about chemistry, but about working hard. i feel so good about myself now. she is awesome and funny and really cares about her students who show interest in the class. study and you will do fine. and don't be afraid to ask her for extra help! she is a nice lady! thank you professor Comai!!!!

Comment:

I hate science courses (Chem in particular) but I took her for Chem In Context. Great course because there is little to no math, for those who struggle with it.She's a little uptight, and she will work rants about how China is supposedly evil into EVERYTHING but overall she's actually very easy. I recommend her to non science majors for sure.

Professor Comai is great. She can get a little snippy but will explains the information for you if you don't get it. She's very quick with her responses via email and gives you plenty of hwk to so you can understand the info. As long as you attend the class and read the text book and hand outs, you will pass the class just pleasantly :)

In short she was unclear, disrespectful, pretentious,condescending sarcastic and openly advocated her right-wing agenda as a part of lecture. I received an "A" in the course (Chemistry in Context) and I would rather have a "D" than have to take another course with her...and I learned NOTHING about chemistry!
