Comment:

Extremely nice and helpful. Did not regret having her as my instructor. Went to her office multiple times and was helped more than what I asked. She literally gives you the answer when you ask her a question instead of giving you a harder time. Also replies to your emails quickly.

Comment:

This was a great class. Her lectures were fascinating and she loved to discuss the topics with her students. She makes the topics apply to students. There are readings and discussion preps (1-2 pgs) due each week, and a final paper at the end of the year. It really wasn't bad and she gives good feedback.

She is a nice teacher and definitely knows a lot about religion, but what bugs me is that she assumes that everyone is in love with learning about religion when 98% of the people in there took it because it was just a GE and they had to. I respect how much she knows and how she wants us all to succeed, but she needs to know her target audience.

Comment:

Dr. McCarthy is one of the best professors, if not the best professor, that I have had at Chico State. She makes you work for your grade but the lectures are engaging and she makes them very interesting. I absolutely recommend her class with the warning that she does expect a lot from her students. Get ready to read. It's well worth it though.

Comment:

Best teacher at this school. She is always available for help and have gone to her office hours multiple times. She will outline exactly what you need for each homework assignment. Doesn't make you participate if you don't want to but I'd advise you to dive into the course because she makes it extremely interesting. Lots of online reading!!

Dr. McCarthy is hands down the best professor at Chico State! The university is so lucky to have her. You will never find a professor who care for students more than Kate. She is an incredible lecturer and truly loves the material. She is brilliant and will make you a better writer. Do yourself a favor and take this class!

Awesome professor. A lot of writing and reading though, but I wouldn't say it's hard. This class is switching to lower division (275) next semester so there might not be as much of it. She's very helpful, knowledgeable, and funny.

Mccarthy co-taught this class with jason clower. both are okay professors, nothing special. absolutely hated the class... instead of learning ABOUT different religions our assignments asked us questions as if we were a part of them. difficult and frustrating to complete writing assignments coming from an agnostic background. not athiest friendly.

This was a seminar on Religious Pluralism in America. I had to be one of the most interesting RELS classes I've ever taken. She was willing to help with the research topic and discuss issues students were having while writing their papers, I wish I could take another class with her

She is so intelligent and really cares for the subject and her students! She leads great in class discussions and gives you a feel for a variety of religions. It might seem challenging at first, but the final is much easier than anticipated, so don't stress if you miss a reading assignment you will absolutely do great!

EXCELLENT TEACHER! Really cares about subject and students. Learned a lot. I think we only had one test. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are many in-class paired reading responses. I think do all your homework, pay attention, study a bit and you will get an A.

Upon entering this class I had no interest in either women's studies or religion. After learning what I have in this class, and listening to how passionate Dr. McCarthy is when she speaks I have gained an interest in both areas of study. I find Dr. McCarthy a pleasure to listen to, and a great source of information.
