Comment:

Took this class as a hybrid during winter. Not the best option if youre not able to keep up with the fast pace curriculum AND taking another core class along with this one. Lectures were online and labs were 3 times a week. Tests were fair but was worth 50% of your grade so dont fail. Overall work really hard and an A / B is achievable!

Comment:

Took an online hybrid, met for labs once a week. She tests super heavy, exams and pop quizzes. Her exams have no study guides & she posts objectives but has completely different material on the exam. She can be super condescending and make you feel dumb if you need assistance during a lab be prepared to get condescending answers. Hate bio even more

Comment:

I took a hybrid course that met once a week for lab. Her class was very straight to the point and she clearly laid out her expectations and made the online portion a breeze. Quizzes are every week and are very simple, just pay attention and keep up with assignments!

Comment:

An ok teacher, can be condescending. Has high expectations for class. Tests are hard. Lab quizzes were harder than the tests. Biggest issue with the class is there is no study guide. The material is A LOT. Teaching was ok, it can be boring at times. An A is possible in this class if you can apply yourself and work hard.

Comment:

Her powerpoints don't have enough info on them to study from and navigating the textbook is difficult because she teaches certain parts of random chapters out of order. Her test questions and grading is very specific and challenging. That being said, she is nice, willing to help, and passionate about her subject. Difficult class but A is possible!

Professor Burke teaches right from her power points and focuses heavily on her objectives. She interacts with the class a lot and if you do not know the answer to her question she makes you feel down about it. Lab quizzes are difficult. There is a research paper that brought down most of our grades.

Great professor! She is not easy, but getting an A is possible. Test and quizzes are tough but take good notes, read the book, study the objectives & you'll do fine. She is always willing to help you during office hours. Always have your lab sheets fully done, she will collect them randomly!

Comment:

She teaches from her PowerPoints and gives objectives. Most of her objectives are not on the exams and she grades very harshly. She also has her favorites in the class, get on her good side. Exams are very tough and lots of short answers and essay questions. I do not recommend her. Gives very little extra credit.

Prof. Burke is great! She's super funny, incredibly knowledgable, and her lectures and labs are usually really interesting. Sometimes she gives quizzes at the beginning of class, so you have to be on time. Her tests are really straightforward and if you study, you'll do fine! She was great about putting all the lectures and grades on blackboard too

This professor is amazing! This class is supposed to be hard! so do not think that you will be able to just slide by. Do exactly what she tells you! If she says something will be on the exam...it will be! Take good notes! And study the objectives. People that do bad in this class obviously do not do what the Professor says to do. Take Her!

LOVED this class & professor!If you want an easy A, don't take her;however, if you want to truly learn A LOT from a professor who truly loves the subject & her students,then take her. Tests are hard,so study!She collects lab sheets randomly,so stay up to date.If you apply yourself you'll succeed.Go to her office hours for help,she's very helpful!

She is a hard grader.She gets mad if you don't know the answer what she is asking you.She gets mad if anyone is using their phones in class.She doesn't like when people get to class late.Don't take this teacher.If you don't study and you won't don't do good on the tests. If she gives extra credit its only 4 or 5 points not that much!she is mean!!!

Loved her! It's a tough class, but its suppose to be! Pay attention to her lectures they are CRITICAL! If you are cloudy on something, read the book. When she emphasizes a certain subject PAY ATTENTION it's important! Keep up with your lab data sheets! They are 40 points and she collects randomly. Do well on web tutorial! Lab quizzes are HARD!

I was dreading and fearful of taking microbiology. Everyone around me who took it either failed or dropped out. HOWEVER, professor Burke is very clear and easy to understand. She made this semester so fun for me. Getting an A is not impossible! Don't be afraid of the unknowns! You can talk amongst your group. Her lectures (to me) were very clear

Expects specific answers for non-specific questions!Harsh grader. Write everything you know of the topic she is asking & maybe you will hit the points that she expects you to know/answer without specifically asking you what she wants,annoying. I got 2/4 points on a lab quiz question for a correct answer but not in order she wanted! Lab is ur grade!

Really enjoyed her class. It's intimidating at first but give it a chance. Lectures are interesting-labs are fun. Don't be absent. Keep up with data sheets. Exams aren't too difficult if you study, lab quizzes are tricky. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. Web tutorial instead of research paper. Loved doing unknowns! I RECOMMEND this professor.

Professor Burke is hands down my favorite professor at COC. Although micro is a very challenging subject, she made the class so interesting and fun. I dedicated so much time to studying and it definitely paid off. Make sure to study a lot of details in lab book and textbook, for quizzes and tests. Favorite class of all time. TAKE HER!:)

Loved her class! The material is challenging and her tests can be difficult but she is a great professor and you will learn a lot in her class. She is nice, very helpful, and wants you to succeed

Kelly was very clear spoken. Did not allow pics of unknowns. Very detailed tests. Very good at making you feel inadequate. Not understanding of non-science minded brains!
