Exams are very easy. Homework is done in groups. The textbook he used had no access code. Some in-class problems are collected for a participation grade at the end. He rambles and gets sidetracked sometimes, but I got used to it after a few days. Knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. Tip: pay attention during lectures and example problems.

Lectures are pretty unorganized and he makes a lot of mistakes. Often asks the class if he's doing the work right. However, there's enough notes and examples in the study guides he gives that the exams aren't too hard, and he drops the lowest grade. Homework was graded very tough but that was the TA's fault. Show up and study and you'll do fine.

Prof Berman is an approachable guy. He can ramble during lectures and is a bit unorganized, but he is very open to questions and wants to help students learn. Everything you need to know for the class is covered in his reasonably priced textbook ($25), and I found that I learned more from the textbook than I did in the lectures.

Took him for Discrete Structures. Given the course topic, he taught as much as he could. However, he also rambled a lot and speaks very monotone. I learned much more from the assignments and google searches than from lecture. Otherwise, his grading was usually fair and he was very clear on what was required of exams. So it evens out.

Dr. Berman is just a great guy. I really enjoyed his lectures. Even if I got lost sometimes, I would just read about the topic from the book (which he wrote) and it was cleared up. Tests were worth 55% and he took the best two out of three. This was the only class I took at UC, but he was way better than any professor at my other university.

Definitely one of the more interesting CS profs at UC. Had him for discrete structures. Not the best or the worst prof, but certainly an awkward guy. He gives few homeworks and exams, and in class he will sometimes follow the textbook and other times completely ignore the it. Overall, if you keep up on the reading and homework you'll do fine.

Berman is a boring professor, however his tests are very easy if you complete the entire study guide. He picks questions from his study guide like give pseudo-code for a recursive algorithm. Usually the hard extended response questions so prepare for the study guide early. Exams are 55% of grade and he takes best 2/3 exams. Watch youtube to study.

He gives homework assignments that are very difficult. Luckily I chose to work on a team with some very smart people. He does random attendance checks. He gave us pdf copies of his book which was the book we used in class. After the first homework assignment I came to him seeking guidance since I couldn't solve the problems on my own and he helped.

Went to class 4 times all quarter, and got an A- in the class. Just need to go to lab and do the assignments. Practice tests and quizzes are posted online; if you study them, you will do great on tests. Take him for Programming if you have the chance.

Boring to listen to and gives vague, hard to understand explanations of crucial topics. Assignments are usually not too difficult, since the book is actually very good. You will have to read to learn most of the material, as lectures are not helpful in the least. Asking questions in office hours is equally frustrating.

Bear-MAN! I love Berman. He is a bit vague, and has a funky accent. He likes to talk about sticky wickets and how things are trival. He has a problem of oversimplifying, but is pretty good at explaining it.

Disorganized, hard to follow lectures. tried asking questions in office hours and he confused me even more. gets overly excited about "cute" things to do when programming and forgets to teach the main subject. Homeworks would be simple if he knew how to teach - you just copy the books program and embellish (quite a bit tho...)

Had Dr. Berman for many CS courses. He is very much into graph thry type stuff and not the practical stuff like what you do when you graduate. He is too easy and his prgramming assignments are too small and impractical. However, he is great guy and is pretty cool dude. He is middle of the road as teacher, but pretty smart guy for research.

This guy is OK. His lectures are very disorganized and he has a knack for making simple things seem complicated, but at the same time, he's very personable and open to questions, so going to class isn't too painful. And he's Canadian, which is cool.
