Expect to learn Chem on your own. He dances around ?'s. He says over and over that this is simple and elementary, if you can't understand then you should give up and do something else. He makes you feel like an idiot. I went to SI, STARS, and bought 3 supplemental books which helped big time. Don't give up like he says to, stick with it.

Avoid taking his class at all costs. I literally changed my major because of how much he made me despise chemistry. He has confusing notes, and it does not help that he flips through the slides way too fast to even write anything down. I had to read the book to teach myself because he is no help

Dr. Dorris is a pretty good teacher; not my favorite. Explains things fairly clearly. Has a hard time hearing--best to ask questions after class. Gives LOTS of extra credit, so it's hard not to make an A. It's Chemistry though, so keep up with the material. Sometimes he goes too slow or oversimplifies concepts that need more explanation.

The most frustrating class I've ever had to take. Not because of the material but because of Dorris. If you are learning this material for the first time TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR or else you will teach yourself everything. If you ask a question he will not answer it. Will NOT help. Amazed he's teaching honors. Made an A ONLY bc I knew the material.

Awful teacher. Be prepared to teach yourself. I only took him because I had to for an honor's credit. DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Absolutely horrible. Too old to teach. He makes you realize how stupid you are (even though you're not). Goes through slides that he prepares and doesn't care if you understood. doesn't teach good either. Don't take him unless you know course material already.

Do not take this man. He will sucker-punch you on exams with questions over material he did not cover. Speeds through power points whether your done writing or not. Very rude. Very condescending. Pretends he can't hear you askinganswering questions. I am an A occasional B student. I struggled for a C in this class. He has no business teaching.

Dorris wants you to interact in class, however, I'm not sure if he can hear. If you ask a question in class, you can be sure that he will act like he has answered it and think that he has answered it, but he won't answer it. He assigns way too many problems on Mastering Chemistry. He doesn't update online powerpoint, just hopes the old ones work.

Terrible Chemistry teacher. Acts as if you are already a failure from the first day of class. Doesn't help students learn the material and gives tests that have nothing to do with his lectures. Avoid at all costs.

Bad Teacher. Does not explain examples well at all. Goes through the power points without explaining them well. Spends most of the time in class complaining about how student wont learn the material and how we are going to fail the test.

He is a nice guy...but that's all he has going for him. I am in his Honors Chem class. So many things wrong: 1) DOES NOT explain ANYTHING you're on your own for this class. 2) Makes you feel very dumb by calling everythin simple and boring, when no one knows what's going on 3) copying notes is useless because he flashes through the slides.

He's really funny, and knows what he is talking about. He doesn't have an accent so he is easy to understand. He also posts his reviews and previous tests on his website. As long as you study those tests and your notes, you will do fine. (I love the 10 nomenclature bonus questions!)

He isn't a very good teacher, but not for a lack of trying. He just doesn't understand student questions. However, if you fail the class, it is your own fault. I just go to SI sessions and only study the night before the test. I have made well over a hundred on all my test, and chemistry isn't even the best subject for me. I would take him again.

Clicks through a powerpoint for lecture and offers print out notes to follow along. Had to sign in for role check every day. I went to supplemental instruction twice a week in order to understand the material. Difficult class, but if you study and go to SI you can make an A!

He's a very good teacher. He gives you a whole picture on his lecture. Then, you have to go by yourself. He's eager to help you any concept in chem.Other teachers are easy but they don't teach you any thing. Then, you still have trouble on their exam.

Me might be a bad teacher but I don't have a clue how everyone does bad. He gives 2 bonus Qs's, 10 bonus nomenclature Q's, and SI pts. You can get like 130 on each test. SI pts are 10 bonus pts on each test just for showing up to them all. People who fail cannot be trying AT ALL. Attend class, go to SI, and memorize the nomenclature.
