Comment:

He's a kind person, easy to see. However, I found almost everything he taught me to be impractical when actually conducting groups. His conducting style is extremely flamboyant and it's very hard to see tempo. Surprised he's qualified to teach conducting with that type of conducting style. It's hard to avoid having him. So good luck. You'll need it

Comment:

I rarely attended this class...the lectures were boring but that is expected as it is a class about classical music. He is knowledgable, though, which is a plus. The listening quizzes are fine, but study HARD for the two (?) exams. Ended up with a B in the class. Concert reports are way easy, got 100% on all of them.

Comment:

Professor Furumoto is an extremely nice man but his lectures can put you to sleep instantly. Attendance isn't mandatory but is recommended. The listening quizzes are pretty easy but the tests are HARD. The concert reports are also pretty easy. I didn't attend class half of the time and still got a B.

his lectures are extremely boring. His tests are nearly impossible without the book because they are completely based on the book and barely talked about in class so you might as well not even go. good luck trying to talk to him via email or study hours because he rarely helps you with your problem.

terrible. he puts all the powerpoints online so you don't really need to go to class. he puts up study guides for the exam but they barely help. use the link to the study sessions for the online textbook they can be a lifesaver. don't bother buying the cds you can find the songs on youtube.

I'm not going to lie, this class really wasn't very interesting. Professor Furumoto seems like an extremely nice man, but his voice is so soft that it puts half the class to sleep. Aside from that, the class is easy, but I probably wouldn't want to take it again.

This is a terrible professor. He has THE MOST BORING voice. Only is interested in HIS favorite composers and will not talk about anyhing but classical music. Quizzes are hard and exams are nearly impossible. He thinks his class is the only thing that matters in your life. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! If you are in his class, drop it as soon as possible.

He talks in a monotone voice that will have even the most astute student taking a cat nap. Subject material is extremely limited. He will only like you if you have an understanding of old Western classical music. No John Williams or Hans Zimmer-too recent for this professor. He also believes that his class is the most important class in the world.

Purely a showman. He gets EXTREMELY attached to the music as if he's the soprano soloist and as a result, he rushes! Not very intimate with the orchestra. Lacks the ability to make friends with the orchestra. VERY Awkward conductor. And finally, horrible.

No discernible beat pattern. Odd beside manner. Was voted out by tenure review board but managed to stay afloat through politics. A real pedagogical tragedy. This person is a train-wreck. Truly unbelievable. Shocking.

Not good at all in teaching the content, style and technique of the music. He might be good at conducting a professional group where people already know what they are doing. He has no idea what is really going on within the wind and percussion sections. He's not good in an educational setting

rehearsal technique is terrible. not clear on what he wants from the orch & doesn't fix mistakes. never has anything to say to WW, Brass & Perc. Music is good but so dissapointing when it's not played well. If you wanted to better yourself as a musician, this is not the place to do it. Join an outside orch where you can get better experience.
