Comment:

Spent so much time learning about Cuban music that we were never getting tested on that we had to rush through the notes (which weren't made available online). As an "FSEM advisor" having office hours (1.5) once a week is kind of ridiculous when we need help. Half the time I went, she was in the studio or not even there and made me waste my time.

Comment:

While not "literally the devil," Klugherz is a really poor professor. All the notes taken in class are presented directly from powerpoints that you aren't allowed access to. Tests aren't terrible, you're given a review guide that tells you pretty much exactly what to expect. Kiss up, get on her good side, and you'll do OK. You just won't enjoy it.

So much reading. Won't be clear how much is actually important until 2 big exams. Study guides were given, but the exams had an emphasis on things we barely touched on, if at all. With the exception of a research paper, there was no clear grading criteria. It was all whatever she felt. Had limited office hours. Disorganized. Does not use moodle.

Laura Klugherz is a horrible teacher. She should not be teaching at a public high school, much less a prestigious institution. She does not teach anything that is on the tests, she expects you to read up to 100 pages a night at times, and to comprehend it. She has no real knowledge of California and just reads off of her powerpoints. Dont do it

Worst Teach I have ever had. Sprints through power point slides not giving anyone enough time to either comprehend what she is saying or write some notes down. Gives random grades and just should not be teaching in general. Do not take this class, trust me.

Laura Klugherz does not deserve to be paid for her "teaching." Do not. DO NOT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is condescending, degrading, and comically arrogant. Her grading criteria are intentionally vague so that she can give you whatever grade she pleases at the moment.

This is far and beyond the WORST professor I have encountered. Ever. If this class was your only class, it would still be too much of a time commitment. This week, we have two quizzes, a final research paper due, an exam, and individual meetings to discuss paper revisions. On a "final draft." She is an embarrassment to the school and to teaching.

Best Professor I've had. Really helpful and passionate professor! Lots of work, but a really easy grader as long as you act interested and participate in class. I would definitely recommend this class!

Seriously my favorite professor. So nice and helpful! class is a lot of work, but she is such an easy grader. she keeps class so interesting and we watch movies all the time! as long as you act interested and participate during class, you are guaranteed an a! She is seriously so awesome! You will learn so much during this class, so worth taking!

She's an incredible teacher but RUDE and has NO RESPECT for student's schedules. As an upperclassmen she has still given me the most unbelievably disrespectful comments about anything that doesn't fit with her schedule. We also had to miss an SPW before because of her poor scheduling. Enter at your own risk.

I cannot even begin to tell anyone how horrible this class was. This professor is by far the worst professor that I've had. I remember reading past comments and thinking "how awful can this professor be" and after taking this class, I can only stress to potential future students that this class was a horror.

DO NOT TAKE CORE CALIFORNIA. It was painful. It is an unbelievable amount of random readings that do not mesh together in any way. It is so boring, and is way to much work for such a stupid class. That being said, I've never gotten anything but an A on something I turned in, so she's an easy grader, but the pain isnt worth the easy A.

The most powerful and inspiring music teacher I have ever had, the woman changed me from a lazy student to a hardworking one who can play the violin like a pro. You may not always agree with her tough, and often unfriendly methods, but she means well and if you put in full effort, will care about you unlike any other teacher can.

I had the worst experiences of my life in this class. This woman will kill you with assignments and bring you back to life just to kill you with more assignments. This class got me depressed for an entire semester. She knows her stuff but cannot teach. Even worse she is mean and cannot compromise. Do not take this class please!!! The horror!!!

brutal professor... classes are so boring and long followed by films that you get tested on in which she does not tell you this... very passionate about the subject but expects you to know as much as she does which is annoying.. really hard and erratic grader.. all readings are fair game for tests and she definitely uses this tactic... avoid at all

Prof. Klugherz is really cool (ask her about her life, she has some great stories). She can be grumpy and her classes are VERY hard but she makes them hard because she is so passionate about music. Having her was a good experience but if you want an easy class she is definitely not for you.
