Comment:

Guth is a solid professor overall. The guy knows literally everything there is to know in the geographic/earth science field. He lectures quite a bit but the geology labs that you do are very helpful and super interesting. The lectures get very dry but if you can stay focused and take notes you can get a lot out of the class.

Comment:

I like him but not his class. Lectures are long. All the quizzes are difficult but you can retake it. He uploads the exams' questions from years ago so you can make and use cheat sheets for the midterm exams. Final exam is from the 2 previous mid-term tests, so it wouldnt be too hard.

Comment:

He wore the same three shirts every single class I had with him. Nothing but slideshows the entire class without any student interaction. Crazy map quizzes every week. Mid terms have nothing you studied on in the chapters&you have to look through a 45 pg packet for the answers. Heard the other Earth Systems classes were extremely easy w other prof.

Not a bad guy. He just simply does not know how to teach. The guy has worked for every geographic company out there apparently and has done a lot of engineering, but can't seem to take what he knows and simplify it for students. So basically, he should go back to working as a Geographer.

AWEFUL. I am taking his earth system science class and all we've done is take map quizzes with 100 + terms to remember. And if you ask questions hell make you feel dumb by saying, "this is easy". But you only need to know 20 terms sooooooooooooo. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SO BORING (ZZZZZZZZ)

Professor Guth is a nice man but he was absolutely no help at all with any of the material covered in his Earth Systems section. His powerpoints were lengthy and unreasonably overcomplicated. Instead of briefly introducing a subject such as scientific notation, he would DELVE into the history of it. Hated the class, tried to like the man..failed

Guth gives boring lectures with lots of big words that the average student won't understand. I failed both tests, had no idea what I was doing on any labs, but still ended up with a 4.0 because I turned everything in and did well on the final. Just show him that you're putting some effort in and he'll reward with a decent grade.

He actually tries really hard to be a good teacher. He gives power point lessons, keeps blackboard up to date and has a crazy grading scale in your favor. Unfortunately, he makes the simplest thing sound difficult. Nice guy though.

Guth's map use class is pretty interesting. If you study enough, you ought to do well in it. I got a 4.0 in it; you should be able to as well if you understand basic math from high school and read the textbooks.

Too smart for his students' own good. He tries hard to make sure everyone understands but unless you have your phd it is pretty difficult to grasp every class. If you ask for help he is always more than willing to help you. He is a very nice guy and tries to make every opportunity for you to get a good grade. go to class, study & you should do well

He tries, but he comes across as more physics than geography. I have an easy time being trained in physics, but I see a lot of blank stares on frosh faces in here. He is a nice guy but his class leaves something to be desired and his tests grading formula is the strangest I have ever seen.
