Comment:
Incredibly boring lecturer. Prescribes textbooks that are novels and personal accounts. Her notes are put online, but are literally 90% copied and pasted excepts from the useless and boring textbook. She does not seem knowledgeable of the material at all. Exams are 40 open ended questions each, and she nit-picks each one so hard. I would avoid

Dr. Newsom is a fantastic professor. The entire course was extremely relevant to things that ArcSci majors like myself will be encountering for the rest of our careers. There is not one thing that I learned in this class which I think will not be applicable and relevant in my future. I learned SO MUCH! Way more interesting than I thought it'd be!

Class was a first year seminar. Very easy, no exams which is always a plus. The prof. is extremely nice and loves what she does! Only downfall is the WEEKLY 3-5 page papers... a little much for a first year seminar.

as long as you pay attention in class and read the blue boxes in the book that she tells you to before the exams you'll get an A in this class

Newsome is a decent teacher. Her class was one of the easiest I ever took here at PSU. The class itself is pretty boring, I fell asleep alot, but she's cool and helps you out. I got a 98 on the first test without really trying. Take it for a good Soc Behavioral Science.

Easiest class I've taken at PSU. There are 3 exams and a recitation section. If you go to class and take notes, then you'll get As on all the exams (test Q's are from the lecture). I didn't need to study or read the book, and there's no homework.

I think her lectures often reflected her online notes, and she just helped clarify the notes she posted. If i needed help or clarification on anything, she was always open and willing to help me which was nice.

Yes it was a seminar, but nonetheless it was an easy enough grade and she was very nice and really knew her subject matter. We didnt even have to take the final if we were happy with our final grade!! Kinda boring, but if its your thing, than take it.

I agree, this course was poorly taught. The professor didn't seem very bright at all. The use of Powerpoint, an overhead projector, her computer, and even her microphone was a challenge to her. This course provided almost 0 help to students trying to learn.

This could possibly be the WORST course ever. The book is terrible, and the exams are extremely unfair (and there is no curve). Do NOT take this class.
