She is old-school. Expert in her field. Responds quickly to questions but gives minimal feedback on assignments. Make sure you read assignment directions very carefully- there are many small things that could crash your grade. The content is really interesting but there is a lot of it. Know WP before you start this class.

Course material was fairly disorganized, but each lecture was informative. Rubric and grading criteria are well defined, but assignments were fairly involved for a 1 and 2 credit course. Enjoyed the course but my undergrad was in medieval history. Might have been a little overwhelming otherwise.

I'm almost done with my master's and this has been my favorite class so far. Lectures are fun and fascinating and the manuscript and printed book assignments are awesome (if you give yourself enough time to complete them). Be warned: the midterm is timed and it's bananas. I got 100% on all other work, flunked the midterm. Don't care, still worth it

This prof is horrible. Her grading and assignments are arbitrary and pointless. Her lectures are pre-recorded rambles that touch on the subject matter, but seriously folks, everything she says can be learned on Wikipedia. Worst teacher/class I've had at SJSU.

Semi-decent teacher, but not a nice person. Efficient, but seems to have lost a piece of her humanity in the name of efficiency. Unfortunately she seems to have lost that critical piece of humanity that makes a person a good teacher, or even a decent human being.

This is a difficult class, and a lot of hard work, but very rewarding and well worth it. She lets you know right from the beginning what her expectations are and does not waver from them. If you fail this class, you've got no one to blame but yourself.

A FANTASTIC teacher. The History of Books class was my favorite class at SJSU and that was thanks mostly to Dr. Main. She's smart, lectures in a manner that is both easy to understand and enjoyable, and is fair in her assessments. I completely disagree with the student that said Dr. Main only helps the "suck-ups." She's hard, but fair.

Dr. Main is the toughest prof I've had in the program but she's great at what she does. Everything is very clear, she answers questions quickly and grades even faster. When so many of the profs in this program go MIA, people like Dr. Main are downright refreshing.

Excellent teacher for this difficult class. Her instructions are clear and she's a fair grader. This class taught me more than any other in this program.

What an awesome teacher! I learned so much with her in one semester than I did in a whole year with other professors of her level. Highly recommended. It's true that if you slack off, you won't get anywhere. No sucking up needed, she grades you fair and square AND she grades you on the day you submit your homework.

total waste of time...total blow off...what a bag of wind! I learned nothing. She only knows what she reads in books, and tried to make students feel stupid. She has teachers pets, favorites...but really responds well to suck-ups if you're into brownnosing for a grade instead of learning. Where's the meat???? Yuck. Avoid this one.

She is a great person, and a pretty good instructor. She knows her stuff and is typically helpful and insightful when answering questions. She taught this class online, was very organized, and had a well-structured class.

An excellent teacher who really cares about her subject and the success of her students. I do not understand the previous writer's comments except for the fact that Main expects students to work hard, and there are some very lazy students in the program.

very mean person and doesn't want to explain simple tasks to students. Not recommended unless if you want waste your time and without learning to get an A . She is more interested in her Ireland than the class.
