Comment:

She is really nice but you have to earn every point in that class. The advice I would give you is talk to her about the assignment you are currently working on. She is very particular in what she wants to see so the safest way to earn a good grade is to ask her what she wants to see. Also, you can get away without the book. You talk about it twice.

Comment:

Lori is one of those profs who make you feel passionate about learning. The textbook is used early in the semester and then forgotten about, and readings are not usually assigned. I had to put a lot of work into this class, but it paid off. Her office hours are helpful. Treat every major project like it's your life's work and you'll get an A.

Lori is passionate about this class. Her lectures are pretty good, but when it comes to grading, that's where she'll get you. She has no problem giving you a terrible grade and being non-transparent about it, even refusing to meet to discuss the grade and will never admit she is wrong. If you don't want to work unnecessarily hard take someone else

Lori genuinely cares about her students and, as long as you show genuine interest and that you care about her class, is exceptionally patient, understanding, and helpful. She's a great person to have in your court and will help you find opportunities outside of the classroom if you take the time to get to know her and seek challenges.

Comment:

She really cares about her classes, and it shows in her lectures. That being said, she grades really tough, so going to her office hours can help. You will have to write essays, give presentations, and create a long (7-10 minute) video for this class, but she gives you enough time to work on each.

I dreaded this class because oral presentations make me EXTREMELY nervous. However, Professor Bedell made this 8am class enjoyable! If you work hard and go to her office hours for extra help, it'll pay off. Her feedback is very good and she helps you come up with creative ideas for your assignments. Super caring and extremely thorough :)

Really great teacher and person! Super easy to talk to and gives really great advice IF you ask for it!! Take advantage of her office hours because I found them to be extremely helpful. Lectures are engaging and inspirational (even at 8 am). Participation is important and when it comes to the group project, for the love of God distribute the work.

Lori comes across as very kind and calm, but beware: if you dare disagree with her, she has no problem arguing a nonsensical argument back at you and not making ANY logical points - and then pulling the superiority, seniority card. She picks favorites super early in the year and is not at all transparent in her grading. bad.

In CAS138T, Lori seems to grade based upon an "I like you" scale. Grading in English is always subjective, but there was definitely a difference in grading based upon her opinions of students.

Lori is two different people. In person, she is sweet and understanding. However, when you get your papers back, she always writes comments like, "you could do better" or "this isn't your best work." Your grades will not reflect the amount of effort you put into the class. I advise you to take a different professor. She also is a know-it-all.

Bedell's lectures are great. She gives great examples that her students can connect and relate to. She's very passionate about the subject and knows what she is talking about. When giving feedback she often says one thing and then the grade you receive says another, but she's always there for help. She even let us rewrite one of our major papers.

She is an extremely tough grader and not lenient at all. She may seem like a very friendly and nice prof but do not get fooled! I can't agree more on the students who says that she has only one standard about whether it is a good speech or not, that is her own's. You will get a very bad grade if it is not something she wants even if you give effort

Comment:

Professor Bedell is extremely nice and helpful. She makes a course that many math/science students dread engaging and fairly easy. That being said my only criticism would be with her feedback on papers. Many students in my class had positive rough draft feedback and then got bad grades when submitted. Luckily, she lets you rewrite one paper!

Comment:

CAS 138T is like a less stressful and more interesting 137H. Lori definitely makes the class better. She tries to provide real world examples to the students. She is a really good professor, but it definitely took me a while to get into the groove of her grading. Sometimes, it is unclear exactly what is expected.

Very tough and unclear grader. She will encourage you and assure you your work is going well but then her grade will not reflect her previous comments. Her expectations are confusing and will leave even the best English student struggling

She's a pretty good professor. She's a very nice person and doesn't seem like she wants kids to do bad. But this is an Honors class and honestly there's quite a bit of work. She made it more interesting than inundating though. I'd recommend it especially if you need the Honors credit. But you can't just do nothing and get an A. I'd say to take it.

Lori Bedell -although not a PhD- takes the PhD attitude to a whole new level. She considers herself an expert and makes it known. Best advice I can give you, is to consult her opinion on everything. Because as you will find, her opinion is the only valid one. She considers herself an intellectual but acts like a child when confronted. Best of luck.
