I had her for one semester and I soon realized I needed to get out of the class. I mean, its not like she wasn't available for help its just when i asked a question she would be like, "yeah...yeah, what don't you get?" and then explain the exact same thing over again. I heard the other theory teachers were better...

Get to know her and ask for help. A different teaching style is never a bad thing. Especially when you are learning HOW to teach. When you are looking to become a teacher never take a class JUST for the subject. Learn and observe your professor's teaching style always. She'll help you think outside the box. Study and you'll do fine on tests.

Lyn Burkett...well...try having to learn from her every day for an hour and accomplishing nothing. I have lost much of my theory/aural SKILLS by being in her class. Calling Lyn Burkett a good teacher is like seeing a legless man win a marathon. Never take a class with her.

I know the class is now gone,(ILT) but in that i got a flavor of how she teaches. For those who know music well and can keep up with her tons and tons of busy work, i guess she's alright. if you don't like being talked down to, disrespected, shouting, and delusions of godhood, she's a bad choice.

Lyn is god awful!! She is very unclear, does not teach and when she does it is not pertaining to the curriculum! All information on tests is not taught in class and shes treats you like you are in nursery school! If you are pre-registered GET OUT!!!! She is rude, obnoxious, and really nasty!

A lot of people are really mean about her but it's not really true. She explains things very thoroughly, sometimes to the point of being tedious, but is generally reasonable. If you don't do your work and you don't study, you won't get a good grade. I don't necessarily think that that is bad...
