Comment:

This professor seems interested in entertaining herself more then anything. She assigns 250+ per week + wkly essay . she doesn't lecture from the material, there is no structure in her class. I stuck it out and still only got a C. she grades based on favoritism furthermore, giving your perspective in class is not welcomed, it was a horrible clas.

This Professor is interesting and well-intentioned, but she assigns WAY more reading and busywork than is necessary. Average reading load amounted to about 200 pages per class meeting, plus weekly response papers that are more of an annoyance than useful. For an upper division class, the amount of busywork is ridiculous.

This professor made me hate life. I quit the major because of my experience in her classroom. She offered no help and no guidance. I got a B in her class and during/after the class, she rarely returned my e-mails and refused to write a recommendation letter for my field study. Worst Professor ever.

Mary Beth is an enjoyable professor to have and her lectures are substantive and well-reasoned, even if not always articulated clearly. She always presents outlines of the day's material and her syllabi always gives the students grounding as to where the course is at a given time and where it will be going. Tends to take things personally, though.

Repeated the reading from the previous night as her lecture more than half the time...basically not worth attending class. Late with evals, even after corresponding through e-mail that they would be up shortly. Likes yogurt delight.

Mary Beth is amazing! She engages class conversation to a high level. She is a very funny, interesting, and personable teacher. She is great to have as a CMMU adviser! She is disorganized, but as long as you can go with the flow, it is all good, and she is too!

Stay away from her! Continuously came to class unprepared; very forgetful and difficult to follow. Hands down worst class and teacher I've ever had in college. Too bad because the subject matter sounded so promising! :-(

Great reading, info to change your life and make you get INVOLVED. Class itself was often boring, unorganized, and lots of events you had to go to conflicted with my work and class schedule and were such a pain/waste of time. Easy to pass, and can be moving, but a class I hardly went to.

The class seemed really interesting, but Mary-Beth gets lost in tangents and makes it nearly impossible to take notes. However, the TA's are great and helpful (especially Chris). Good amount of assignments that make getting an A totally accessible. Also, the midterm study guide was the test, and they gave a take-home final!

I agree that Mary Beth was disorganised in her first round of this course, but i feel i learned a lot from her. She is a very nice and approchable person. She cares very much about the work that she does.

Mary Beth is smart...but...no teaching skills. Authoritative. Incommunicative. Late. Dishevelled. Tempermental. Very bureaucratic, unfortunately, considering she is a Cmmu Prof. who is supposed to be personable, caring and anti-bureacracy. She should not be the Chair of the department, seeing as how the students feel about her. That is what should matter, right? What's happening to our dept. when that fails to be the main concern?

I liked Mary Beth as a person, but her class was probably the biggest waste of time ever created by the hands of man. It was by far the most worthless thing I've done at college so far (and that's saying a lot).

For a brand new course, Wal-Mart Nation wasn't bad at all. Yes, Mary Beth's lecturing style can be grating, and her choice of TAs questionable. But I felt very engaged by the topics and left with far greater knowledge of political economy on a local scale.

MaryBeth is really smart, but a horrible lecturer. She interrupts herself all the time, and doesn't stay on topic. Her Walmart Nation class was a disappointment. As a community studies major, I was very disappointed that discussion on matters of race, sex and class were kept to a minimum. Boo.

She depended on students to run the class by discussing with each other the readings. She showed a bunch of movies too. Don't recall the point of her being the teacher though. She knows the subject, and rarely shared her knowledge with us.
