Good class- It took some adjustment for the creative writing workshop (no lectures or assigned essays) but it was well worth it

a tough & challenging, but fair class that kept me on my toes. you have to make sure to be prepared on Eng.101 areas of essay writing first, especially thesis support and MLA standards and-later on- with research based assignments.

Very detailed with his information. A lot of information given out. Midterms and finals can be very intense but if you work at it and follow his commentary on your assignments you should do fine.

had to catch up on Eng101 areas since it has been several years since I took an English class but once I did, made it through just fine. Dr. Spence keeps high standards but is fair

Though this class was not easy, Spence gave thorough feedback on my exams and most of the writing assignments built up to the research paper. using this feedback was key to getting an A in the class.

Horrible teacher! Do not take! He thinks he teaches at an Ivy League school. He does not grade essays with any type of fairness. If you do not think exactly like him, then get ready to fail.

As a person he is great, but as a teacher he doesn't have much time to clarify certain homework we had I think since he was busy grading our essays. If you try your best, come to class on time everyday, and do your homework you will be fine. But if you are lazy don't expect a good grade point blank! I got an A but I worked for it, stayed up late!

In the online class, Dr. Spence is very detailed. There is a lot of information and it reminds me more of an upper level class vs. a lower level one. Sometimes, professors that are this academic lose touch with the reality of exactly where their students actually live and what they are capable of in the freshman and sophomore years of college.

Dr. Spence is a great instructor. I've taken him twice. He gives exact details on what he wants from you in your writings. Grading is not easy but fair. He gives chances to 'up' your grades.

I loved Spence however he gives far too much work for an average community college professor. He's charming and funny but he is intense. You have to be in class and even if he holds you over you have to stay. I love English but he is tough. You will work for your grade. This is not a class for slackers.

Dr. Spence is tough, but if you work hard and always show up for class, it pays off. He gives a lot of extra credit to those who take the course seriously and work hard. He will not take it easy on you if you give half effort, so show up every day and act like an adult. He is great and I loved having him as an instructor.

Great class and teacher. It is 2014 and I still remember, when discussing a reading, he would get just so into it. It was honestly enough to get me into it! I never did the readings, but for the paper. He pretty much gave the answers prior to quizzes, and outlines for the test material. The one paper was a bit of writing, but not bad.

Dr. Spence is by far the best and most dedicated professor at CVCC. I love his classes! Take him in humanities! Easiest class ever. Eng 102 was easy for me since I'm a dedicated student and love English and took AP in High School. He is hard to the average person and should not take him lightly. A very fun, friendly and engaging professor.

online class, so keeping up with weekly schedule is important. mostly essay-based but quizzes & online discussion also count heavily. probably the most high-tech lectures i've ever seen. Dr. Spence is tough but also fair and cares about his students. going to sign up for another class with him this fall
