Cons: Made students uncomfortable during lectures. Get ready to talk about women in politics daily. Assigns a lot of reading. Very harsh grader. No clear grading scalerubric. Outside readings loosely correlated to class discussions. Never sure what to expect on testsquizzes. Pros: Very knowledgeable in foreign relations. Gives a lot of feedback.

Got me interested in global affairs and feel like I was naive before taking this class! Covered events from every continent and assignments required using foreign media and news sources I'd never heard of before. Great eye opening to global affairs. Wish every student was required to take a similar course! Enjoyed debates & UN role play.

For education students such as myself, it is easy to see how terrible Vanderlaan's pedagogy is. Extremely biased, and she'll dock your grade if you disagree with her. She stifles your thought if you don't hate Israel, for example. It's a shame that SUMMA reviews don't affect professors who have tenure, and that she knows it.

Don't ever take a class with this woman!!! If what you say doesn't agree with her views, she will shut you down immediately! Her assignments are unclear, even with all the detail she gives you! TERRIBLE!!!!! one of the worst professors i've had in my time at Hartwick!

Best advisor, professor, and thesis advisor a person could ever ask for. A gem in the political science's otherwise lackluster faculty.

Great professor! While she may be liberal, she listens to both sides. In the end, just don't argue with her constantly, she does have her Ph.D. and you are still a student! The readings are kind of pointless, but good for background. Just participate in class and your golden.
