Comment:

Shank was definitely the best professor that I had here in my freshman year. Nice guy, always brings in cookies on Fridays, gives you a lot of feedback on papers to make sure that you do the next one right. Course content isn't too difficult and he always tries to make it more fun than just reading the book and just discussing it. Great class!

Comment:

Professor Shank was by far my favorite. He always made colloquium fun and he had cookies every Friday. His theme was also a very easy topic to discuss and write papers on. Had four 5/6 page papers and mini weekly 1 page writing assignments that were easy. My class only had 16 people and we were all really close. Always loved going to class

I am not very good at English but Professor Shank makes it so easy to get feedback before papers are due that I managed to get an A on almost every assignment, of which there are many. He's just a genuinely great guy that brings in cookies on Fridays.

Comment:

One of the best professors I've ever had. Taken three of his classes and loved each one. Isn't a hard grader, and gives feedback if you go to him for help. Amazing teacher, keeps the class interesting and brings cookies ALL THE TIME. Take his class if you get the chance. Great, great guy and is amazing at his job.

TONS of busy work. Great guy: brings cookies every Friday and loves teaching! roughly 30 small papers (2pgs) and 4 major (6pgs). expects everyone to read novels in 3 class periods. If you put significant effort into everything, its an easy A. Grading criteria for major papers and presentations are not clear. Would not take if you have a hard major.

Shank is my favorite professor. The papers were all enjoyable and he gave good feedback, was very enjoyable in class. Adds his class on Facebook, very passionate, brings in brownies or cookies every Friday. Take this class!

Shank is one of the greatest professors I have ever had. I went into this class thinking why do I have to take this stupid class, Im never gonna need any of this in the future but I am SO GLAD I took this class. He made the class interesting and fun and inclusive for all majors. I actually ENJOYED writing. So weird. Thanks Shank!!!

Had a great experience in his Young Adult Literature class. He gives lots of quizzes, but if you read the books then you'll do fine. He also gives extra credit which was nice. Highly recommend.

Best professor ever. He's really cool down to earth guy. He gives good feedback and homework is easy points. He gives extra credit and makes the class fun and enjoyable. Be prepared to read some books though. It's not too bad. This was actually one of my favorite classes.

Shank is definitely one of my favorite professors on Kent Campus. I would 100% take another one of his classes if given the opportunity. There are only 4 major papers but several smaller writing assignments. The paper topics are specific enough to not leave you lost but broad enough to ensure you pick a subject you actually care about.

Comment:

Took him for literature for young adults and I loved him! Made lectures fun and interesting, expectations were clear and to the point. Make sure you go to class because he has in class discussions about the readings and usually has quizzes, but if you read you will be fine! Loved his class and loved the professor. Would definitely take him again!

Really good professor with an interesting class. Read Hunger Games Fault in our Stars and Night. Wrote 4 papers total & presented two of them in front of class. Gives good feedback to help you improve grade if you don't do well at first. Occasional quizzes and a bit of homework. Attendance & participation required but doesn't weigh heavy on grades

He is a great teacher. Always willing to help, discuss, and make you laugh. Not too tough of a grader, but always gives you good feed back. He always has something to talk about in class and makes things very personal which really helps draw you into the class and participate. Fun and welcoming environment. would definitely have him as a teacher 2x

I took Shank's CompII class Summer '13. Though I never read any of the books, I still got an A- in the class. 4 papers to write. He loves to bring cookies, and he loves his Causes he works with a lot. He is usually always happy to help with proofing a paper and its structure. Grades very kindly, and makes sure you know your structure mistakes.

Shank is such a great professor! Although this class is not an easy A, you can easily get an A if you keep up with all the reading and papers! CW2 we read 4 books which were extremely fun and easy reads. 4 papers, however the last one is the only difficult one!He's fun and cares about the students! I recommend 100%!!

Shank was a great teacher but it's not a cake walk. The coursework is demanding but he makes it fun. I hate erasing and I loved all of the books we read: the hunger games, fault in our stars, etc. he even brings little treats to class every so often. This guy lives for his students. :)

Shank is super funny and nice. His class is NOT a walk through the park though. It's a lot of reading and exercises! Make sure you do them. He is helpful and friendly. There are no exams, but there are papers and rarely quizzes. If you do your work and attend class, you'll be fine. I recommend him a thousand times!

He is the coolest, most down-to-earth, and caring professor you'll have. His class is my favorite simply because of him. He is really funny, and awesome at explaining topics. He allows a lot of discussion and lets you have your own poinion whether he agrees or not. He is amazing. TAKE HIS CLASS.
