He explains everything clearly. The book we used (The American Century) was rather biased against every president and annoying because of it. He provided a super helpful study guide for the final. His lectures were more of what he felt like talking about than what the book went over; for example, he might simply focus on one topic in the chapter.

Free A or Pass. Incredibly easy. 20% clicker attendance, 10% mandatory discussion section, 30% essay, 40% final. I took it P/NP, and didn't go to a single lecture or half my discussions (you have to go to half or you fail). Got an A- on the essay, and a 100% on the final. Spent 6 hours on the essay and 6 hours studying for the final.

I really enjoyed my time in Professor Parrish's class. His lectures were engaging and the layout was actually straightforward (early 12th century all the way to 1940s). The problem is that he stresses a significant portion of your grade on quotes, names, and dates and I feel that this is not the best way to gauge understanding of the material.

You HAVE to go to class, he asks obscure questions that were only passed on in lecture. My grade shocked me....

It's not the contents of course you will struggle with. Prof. Parrish makes them very unclear and unorganized. Thus you will remain confused and stressed throughout the whole quarter.

I'd say that he's a disproportionately better story-teller than he is an instructor. Covers WAY too much history in each class: Every session is him story-telling the entire time, walking back & forth, literally uninterrupted--Your hand will pain. No class discussions and is very brief in answering questions. But he IS a nice guy and is BRILLIANT.

This class was really interesting and the lectures weren't bad at all. He kept the subject interesting and the cases we examined were fun. Don't miss class and youll be alright. The test are terrible though, all memorization of quotes, dates, and trivial stuff. I know my GPA is going to take a hit after this class.

The class was mostly film study so it was lackluster at times. Yet Parrish will humble you with his vast knowledge of U.S. constitutional and legal history. Your research essay basically determines your course grade and Parrish will grade you on both content and style. While not an easy A, you will improve as a writer upon reading his critiques.

Exciting, interesting, well organized lectures that end on time - what a concept! This was easy because it was laid out so well. He expects more on that first test than it seems when it says it will be an objective kind - lots more IDs and high expectation for the answers. Very willing to help. Liz Mikos was a great TA and people attended.

Easy to understand. Just go to class, take notes, study, then you'll get an A+++++ on the exams. Quizzes and tests are extremely easy, just regurgitate information he's given you. He gives study guides that has questions exactly like on the midterms and finals. Funny. Intelligent. Respectable man =)

His format is always a midterm and a final (plus 2 quizzes). Very doable. Do the readings to get a high grade. He gets stuff from the readings. Podcast is very helpful.

TAKE THIS CLASS! An "A" is attainable, just work for it. Lectures go really fast. Michael Parrish is the greatest lecturer I have ever had in my four years as an undergrad. Doesnt seem like the friendliest guy on earth, however - but he wears a bow-tie, how awesome is that!?

The only thing I hated was the structure of his exams: MC's, matching, fill in the blank, & chronology. Study guides arelong! 70-80 key terms + 6 potential essay topics to study for. However, he is very intelligent and his outlines are thorough & well structured. He knows his stuff! You'll learn a lot, but have to work hard to get a good grade.

This class is really hard so if you don't have to take it don't do it. He is really passionate so those of you who are looking for a professor who knows history well he's your man. The test's are memorization and essay questions, both are soooo hard!

Dont take this class. WAY TOO HARD. THere are a million dates, names and other lame stuff to memorize. The majority of the test is an eassy, which are generally not too bad, but the fill in the blanks, mulitple choice and matchings are ridiculous!!!!!!

Lectures were fairly interesting. Alot of stuff he said were facts that we were tested on since you had to know alot of facts since there were lots of multiple choice questions. YOu dont really need to watch the movies, just read an online summary of them and you will be fine. Oh and the TA grading varies but the paper was easy

He is such a great prof. He really has a passion for history and his lectures are interesting. He covers a lot of info, so going to class is important. Midterm was all objective questions and pretty easy as long as you know the material, and he gave us essay topics in advance for the final. This class is easy and fun if you read and go to class.
